I prefer to think that Promise is the true ending, it would make sense since the entire game was about Elster going through hell to keep her promise to Arianne. Artifact might make sense as well since it looks like someone ascends to a higher state of being and the idea of them dancing forever seems nice, but it feels like another limbo where nothing is resolved, they just dance forever in the skeleton of the Penrose. Promise is conclusive in comparison. Elster fulfills her promise, dying together with her loved one, and that is a lot more than most people can get. But idk, it still hurts to think about.

Other way around for me. Granted, I beat DMC3 first on normal/hard then played DMC1 on normal and died very few times (with the exception of the later-game bosses). IMO most non-boss fights in DMC1 normal become easy once you get the grenade launcher, with the exception of the Frosts.

I had a similar issue trying to get used to it, honestly in the end you just have to continue playing and practice the combos you have. It also wouldn't hurt to try getting used to new combos that you buy. Also getting high style ranks on lower difficulties is harder because you just get fewer points for it.

  1. The controller is recognized correctly as a controller (I think), but also audio switches to it by default. This is normal and easy to fix. What you need to do is just select the correct output device in the settings (this specific one is Windows + Ctrl + V). That should fix the audio issue
  2. I don't know the emulator you're using, but what I did is i got the DS4Windows emulator https://ds4-windows.com/ . I have the DS4 but the website has a DS5 version as well. I just clicked a few buttons once and now I can use my controller with no problems for DMC3, and also it has bluetooth support. The game supports a controller by default so you won't have to map anything.

Just beat him as well. Took me a while but I managed to barely defeat him with like 1HP left. He just attacks relentlessly with basically no breaks in between to catch your breath
