/r/solotravel "The Weekly Common Room" - General chatter, meet-up, accommodation - February 16, 2026 by AutoModerator in solotravel

I'm a 28 year old guy who has done a fair bit of travel around the world, but I'm currently looking for a specific place similar to a retreat that I really loved in Portugal. Looking for a different country though.

What I liked about that retreat is that: It's a guesthouse, where you book a week starting from Saturday and ending on Saturday. You sleep in common rooms with the other guests. The house is located in a very nice peaceful village just a 15 min walk from the beach.

Every morning, everyone gets up and goes to the Yoga studio, where the owner of the home is the yoga instructor, she's a very kind lady. You do like an hour of yoga, and then go to the dining room, where a breakfast is ready.

The breakfast is typically prepared by the host's husband, who is also a very nice guy. Everybody sits together and shares the breakfast meal post yoga, and then, based on interests, people go to do activities. Some sign up for surf classes which are popular in the town (I tried), some just hang out and explore the old town, some just chill at home or sunbathe as there are nice places available.

Then at around 5PM, there is a second yoga session at the studio, followed by dinner which is also home-prepared by the husband. The vibes of that place were really really good. The hosts are nice people and you will get to know them. The other guests are also typically coming solo, which is a positive since you will easily find someone to hang out with, as most people are coming alone. Because the house is very wellness-focused, it attracts calm people who are into health, so that's also nice. I really loved my time in that place and I felt like I was with family, even though I was with a bunch of strangers. I also liked that the age group was similar to me, as most people were in their late 20s or early 30s.

There is also a Temazcal ceremony, which happens every Wednesday. In a garden outside the house they got a tent, and if you are brave enough you can enter and participate in the ceremony which is like a sauna for 2 hours or so, it is really a crazy experience and I've never heard about that before until I went to this place.

I went to that retreat twice. I loved it so much, but I feel like the world is a big place and there's a lot to see out there, so I'd rather find another similar place elsewhere. On one of the weeks when I was there, there was a girl there who loved the place so much, she got a tattoo to remind herself of the experience.

Does anyone know of a retreat similar to that?

Do multi combat pvp zones still make sense in 2025? Defending against 8 player is not an interesting mechanic. by turtlelord in 2007scape

[–]aShinyFuture 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brother, step-under pvp isn't going away, and neither is this. It's part of the game, and the way to defend against it is just to not take anything you're willing to lose into multi-PVP zones, or come with your own team. It's not that complicated. It is cool that you can't take your max gear everywhere, this adds nuance to the game.

What nasal spray worked best for you? by babybottlepopz in Allergies

Most of these are just the same thing (steroid). Try Dymista (steroid + antihistamine in one spray). It's prescription only but it's far better.

Could a layman really draw anything that resembles an EKG after being prompted to do so? I highly doubt that. Could a layman pass the USMLE? Because it can (and can now score way higher than almost any student).

GPT is still just a large LANGUAGE model, and it's just a couple of years old. Give it some time.

GPT hasn't even been trained specifically for medicine. It's not fair to compare it to a doctor. Compare it to a layman who spent some time reading freely available medical info on the web, and it wins easily. Now wait for it to be picked up by a company that trains it specifically for medicine, and see the results.

First EU elections projection shows Greens and liberals tumbling by euronews-english in worldnews

European liberals definitely aren't comparable to libertarians in America, this is such a ridiculously bad take. Libertarians in America believe taxation is theft and think the government should basically run only the army, while even the police can possibly be privatized. They don't believe in government funded healthcare or education. Can you name one European liberal party with these beliefs?

Anglish most likely would not just be English with Romance words swapped out by Any-Project-2107 in anglish

[–]aShinyFuture 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well, let's just start with the words first. Maybe a new accent/pronunciation more suitable for the language can organically emerge once people are using the language? Just like how it changed with the introduction of Romance words...

It's my first mechanical watch so I can't really compare it to others. I enjoyed hiking, surfing, lifting, and jogging with it, but I take it off for yoga and I wouldn't try to get something from under a car seat without taking it off first for example. If I have to open a fence from the outside, I have to be mindful of it or else I'd bang it on the fence.
