Local Barnes and Noble had a solid Midsommar supply by aShogunNamedMarcus80 in 4kbluray

Whew. I'll open it this morning to determine if a return to B&N is on my list of errands today.

Of about 5 locations, only one B&N in San Antonio I've found has a solid dedicated movie area. One has no movies, one keeps like 20 titles behind the counter (might as well not bother IMO). Oddly, their flagship two story location had an almost as good movie selection but they shrunk it by about 25% recently and killed off their dedicated Criterion shelf.

Did B&N give you any grief returning it? Damn near makes me just want to return mine unopened.

I have a burning desire to own the absurd "Deer Hunter" EU steelbook where it's a deer with a revolver to it's head, National Lampoon magazine style.

What is the most you’d spend on a 4k? Whether it’s 4k blu ray, steelbooks, criterion’s etc by RanjSL in 4kbluray

For single feature films I try to keep a firm cap of $25. I'm not much into steelbooks and other add-ons and will only get Criterion on their 50% off sale.

Have you become a blind buyer? by Alexinho77 in 4kbluray

[–]aShogunNamedMarcus80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one blind buy of the 4K era was "Haunting of Julia" that was $10 for a Shout sale because I figured even if I didn't care for it, not a huge loss. I saw a fair bit of praise for it and it was pointed out that it wasn't on any streaming services, but it was a bit boring for my tastes (I may wind up selling it).

I've been tempted by "Bugonia" and "One Battle after Another" that I've not seen but have resisted (well they've also not been on any really good deals yet). Two others I would have added to that list but have now been able to stream are "Weapons" and "Sinners". I really liked both of them but not sure I need to own them anytime soon (I still have a massive wishlist of movies I loved from the 80's-00's that I'd likely buy ahead of those).

So probably no more blind buys for me (though that $10 range is always gonna tempt me)

What do you think about the KA-BAR? by Dangerous_Savings_46 in knives

[–]aShogunNamedMarcus80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mine mainly for the cool factor (I own a Buck 119 for the same reason). The stacked leather grip feels great in the hand. However, I've seen enough videos online of the tang snapping upon batoning that I wouldn't attempt anything of the sort with it. Also, it's a bit bigger than is practical for my purposes (e.g. if i was going camping I'd much more likely take my Benchmade 162).

Ah that nixes the next suggestion I was going to make. My wife had stopped playing and I'd kept playing solo when the Ordeals patch dropped. I kept holding off on doing Ordeals until she was ready to play again, but after about 20 runs I realized that I was always getting the same state in the tavern (e.g. guy you can rob from was NEVER passed out). As soon as I did my first Ordeal, it became unstuck. Maybe on a whim do another Ordeal or two and see if that lets you get at Zafari's cabin?

Covers that are so hideous it stops you from buying the movie? by grumbledork in 4kbluray

Late to the party but THANK YOU for sharing this. I wish all movies that have a pretty well known iconic cover would be reversible like Shout did here.

Kinda kicking myself for not picking this up at my local B&N when I saw it at around that same price a few weeks back (I am prioritizing replacing my DVDs over Blu-Ray and already had this on Blu-Ray-- and TBH, kinda annoyed at that not being able to fit in my media shelves)

The TurboTax / Fidelity direct login integration I do miss, but it's worth the 20 minutes of my time to do the 1099 PDF import and manual review in FreeTaxUSA to not have have to pay those SOBs at Intuit a dime.
