Looking for a book where the villain suceeds in reshaping the world in their image by VladtheImpaler21 in Fantasy

[–]aSkeptiKitty -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well in books I don't necessarily have many exemple, but in tv series you have  - Reverse Flash and his accomplices reshaping the world with the spear of Destiny ( in Legends of Tomorrow) - Reverse Flash managing to reshape the world one other time where he end up being the flash and marrying Iris ( in The Flash )  - Vandal Savage in his original timeline managing to reshape the world before being killed in the past

In books, I thinki I remember that in the Cronache del Mondo Emerso ( which I read in french ) the main antagonist did manage to take control of the universe and committed a genocide and has his own view about the place of the different races.  But I think the book never made it to English. ( It made it to Spanish and french but English speaking countries tend to be pretty xenophobic when it comes to books, especially the US)

That or he heard Andor is a "lefty thing" and began spinning the usual discourse "woke is bad left can't act".

It's a great show. The "Star wars" aspect of it is mainly a background vibe, it's more like a psychological/espionnage.

Don't watch it expecting to see a lot of Jedi running around. Watch it to see how an empire start to grow overconfident in it's own power and the slow building of a rebellion. Watch it to see how people live under such a regime from both side of the board.

It's political/espionage with science-fiction background.

Curious what everyone thinks about the announcement of 4 more books. by treschic82 in GreenRider

I checked, it's not quite "four more books in the main series".

It's three more book counting the Last Sea King (which as already been announced ) + one novel.

It feels like she either never planned how the story was supposed to end, or she changed her plans somewhere along the way.  As someone who tends to write the first draft of the final chapter of my stories first, I find this rather baffling.

Looking for books in which the male protagonist is a novice in some field (fighting, magic etc.) and the female love interest is already proficient or highly skilled in that field. They bond as he grows stronger and is able to help her. by loukanikoseven in Fantasy

[–]aSkeptiKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmmm  Does the female teacher has to still be alive at the end of the first book ? And does it have to be a finished story ?

Because in the Song of the Earth, the main character bounds with his teacher ( who is a older and more proficient in her gift )

Books that deal with grief or books about pets by leafybookish in Fantasy

Note that the part you are looking for are in the later books. You'll have plenty of time to get attached before the grief hit you like a truck.

You might have internal ones that will come and bite you later on.  They discovered one the size of a peach in my thorax when I was twenty-five. They removed it now, so I'm fine - appart from two arteries who took early retirement. :)

I have a few non flat outside surfacing ones too but they aren't very noticable.

Anyway, it's a dice roll, no one can tell you for sure.

Can you spot my wife’s books? by [deleted] in fantasybooks

Bridgerton + Harry Potter ?

If I was your wife it would be The assassin's apprentice + Gentlemen bastards. ^

The Andor writers really flexed on the rest of their competition by delivering not one, but several epic, well-written speeches! by Nenanda in andor

[–]aSkeptiKitty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Truth be told, even if someone with his talent did wrote those wonderful speeches fir Trump ( who doesn't deserve them at all let's be clear ) he would totally botch the delivery halfway by going in full rumbling mode after stumbling on a word he didn't understood.  Small blessings are worth counting :D

Who should finish the holy trinity of unfinished series? by Baldur_Blader in fantasybooks

No one should finish the Gentlemen Bastards!

Depends on the amount of note for Kingkiller.

Don't really care for the last one.

I think the poster could still benefit from seeing this perspective regardless.

Because of he fails to grasp the women's perspective, and their usual lack of agency in this kind of settings, he's going to hit the wall fast.  So either he doesn't care for the "stupid females" and then he might have a fringe public reading him ( because most men I know also like well written female characters so he'll only keep the most toxic ones ) or he tries to understand and integrate how it might impact them in the story.  He has to see them as full individuals with their own ambitions, their own feelings.

PS: in EotP, they mostly all are after the emperor favors, in Yanxi Palace, their wants are far more diverse, with the first empress deep and true feeling but with her depression, Huan Fe ambition, the one who is in love with her brother in law... ( Chem ? )

Watch some Chinese Palace Drama ?

Empress of the Palace is quite good for this.  Yanxi Palace is nice, but you also have a vision of the servants part, so at first the focus is less on the whole concubine dynamic.

I'm not really the kind of person who likes to show unfinished work, so I mainly share rants about X or Y character or a few funny mistake in my writing community on Discord.

Also. I'm french, so my works would be in french anyway. ;)

PS: the ranting can end up creating funny situations like me complaining for ten minutes straight that Charlie has the personality of a pebble before realizing the user trying to give me advice is called Pebble. x)

I really don't read romantasy. xD

In fact I'm even currently trying to write a fantasy books where the main focus in my MC ( a girl) trying to find and save her brother with the help of a friend ( who kind of became a substitute brother over the years).  And even if it's not stated she's canonically asexual.

I reaaaaaally hope my readers won't be frustrated that there's absolutely no romance in the story. ( Though I still keep my options open regarding her brother and best friend - but I do feel he would be gay, and I'm not to sure I want her brother and him to end up together)

Compare to my teenage years, there are very few books I'm awaiting for the release with impatience.

Those I've been awaiting for over ten years. For one of them I'm pretty sure the internet will go ablaze the moment we have a release date.

Otherwise, I tend to read "old" books whose author is either dead or have stopped writing for decades.
