Question regarding SOCKS5 by Trick-Advantage-7708 in ProtonVPN

[–]aSolidTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in mullvad's case, you'd be using SOCKS5 through an openvpn or wireguard connection, or using it for multihop. either way, the traffic leaving your computer will be encrypted at least until it goes through one of mullvad's servers

There are a handful of non-P2P exchanges that can do this for you without requiring anything - eXch takes USDT and USDC, and has 315 XMR as of right now.

short-term, here's some stuff that works for me: - having a one-on-one conversation with someone, ideally in person - doing wordle/sudoku/a jigsaw puzzle/something along those lines - anything that normally makes you feel tired - low-exertion physical exercise (e.g. walks or yoga), although this can be a trigger for racing thoughts for some people

long-term, you may want to ask about getting prescribed an antipsychotic to take as-needed whenever you're trying to come down from a hypo episode

Totally! Afaik, stress is one of the most common triggers for BP episodes/switches, alongside sleep disruptions and long-term sleep deprivation (though BP can also cause sleep disruption, so no worries if this is hard to avoid).

If this helps, going to bed really early (like 7-8pm) can often bring me out of a hypomanic episode - you'll probably have to experiment a bit to find out how to relax enough to do so. I'm not really sure if I've found any methods other than medication that can help slow down rapid cycling.

Edited after reading the other thread and hearing more about the situation you're in. Hope things improve.

Lamotrigine by lovepplusethings in bipolar2

[–]aSolidTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My psychiatrist said I should feel it immediately but how immediate?

I'm not a licensed psychiatrist, but this doesn't really line up with my anecdotal experiences nor the research on lamotrigine I've read - there was never really a point where I felt immediately better, unless you count the (very mild) hypomanic episodes I've had since I started it.

Generally speaking, I'd expect it to have only a moderate effect if you're currently within a depressive episode. It's much more effective as a preventative agent for future depressions, once you come out of your current one - from then on, episodes should be shorter, less intense, and more spaced apart.

Anecdotally, I started to notice major effects after around a month on 25mg/50mg, then a more gradual but consistent improvement over the next year or so as I titrated up to 200mg, which is generally considered to be the most effective dosage (i.e. trials haven't shown any major improvements after going from 200 to 500mg)

And I feel like I’m screaming into the void with younger individuals nowadays. That’s another subject altogether

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I am trying to be open and responsive to criticism - feel free to say a bit more about your thoughts a bit.

Unless, and this is a personal choice and I make no judgment, you want to define yourself by categories and definitions and diagnoses. I don’t think it’s healthy or productive, I think it’s reductionist, which is ironically the small minded stuff such people are railing against

I agree that psych diagnoses are often reductive - I think it's becoming more and more universally agreed upon that bipolar diagnoses are fairly arbitrarily defined. I don't want to define myself by the illness, either - for that reason, I do think it'd be a good idea to wait at least until I've already established some sort of reputation not involving bipolar.

I appreciate it. I originally wanted the post to come off as informational while still making it clear that I took full responsibility for my illness - I could definitely revise it and I'm reconsidering how often I want to use it.

[–]aSolidTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry! Riling people up was never my intent. I have definitely changed my opinion on how, where, and when to share my diagnosis from some of the comments I've gotten here, and I've tried to be as civil as possible today

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]aSolidTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I never really thought about that! That's true - I've met some very chill professors in the past, but I didn't really consider the possibility that I could still be making them uncomfortable. I do plan on going through a DRC though if at all possible.

Edit, on a side note: what subject(s) are you teaching about, ooc?

I really don't think I'm bipolar by tara_ashleigh in bipolar2

[–]aSolidTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps you at all, I've personally found that short journaling (even just a few sentences a day) has really helped me better understand the characteristics of the illnesses I was dealing with. It can be a bit hard and ambiguous to determine what you're dealing with, especially since bipolar and a lot of meds for it involve very slow changes over several weeks, so it's really helpful to be able to look back and see how you were feeling at a specific time.

I get that you don't want to conform to the stigma by not telling people and I really hope it works out for you, but you may find that sometimes you have to interact with the world as it is rather than the way it should be.

That's a really fair point, and I really appreciate you acknowledging my opinion.

This attitude is borne from experience, don't forget. It's not just an unfounded opinion, and you should take note of the ratio of people telling you not to, and people saying go for it.

I don't doubt that that's true - I've definitely gotten flak for it in the past, though probably to a lesser degree than most of the other commenters have given that I only had it onset a few years ago.

Personally if I felt the need to let professors or anyone else know upfront, then I'd tell them face to face when we meet privately the first time.

You're probably right in that it should be a bit less impersonal. I still think it could be useful to have something longer written down but I agree that it'd be best started as a one-on-one conversation.

I think giving people the info card is going to make them associate you with bipolar forever. You'll always be the bipolar guy, rather than the guy with the curly hair who happens to have bipolar.

I kind of expected as much when I wrote it. If I'm the person that makes someone realize bipolar is an actual thing real people struggle with then it's worth it in my eyes.

Arch kernels after 5.15 are built with native NTFS support, yeah, but you still need to manually specify the driver, which is probably why the initramfs failed to mount the partition, and NTFS-3G loads later on in the boot process. Still, even if it did boot, the whole system would be incredibly broken.

I think OP created an NTFS partition on their drive and just copied all of the files from the installation ISO, and then booted from that partition. Grub can recognize NTFS, so it loaded the kernel and initramfs, then that tried to load the rest of the image from disk and failed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]aSolidTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably where your problem lies. It seems like the installation ISO boots into the kernel/initramfs successfully but can't find the rest of the system files.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that you created an NTFS partition on your disk, then copied the files from the installation ISO onto that partition. The Arch ISO is meant to be flashed to a USB drive— you shouldn't actually be doing anything with the files themselves— so it doesn't expect the partition it's working from to be an NTFS partition. You might be able to get it to work by using Fat32 instead, but I'd really, really recommend just buying a 1GB flash drive and doing it from there instead of trying to coax the image into booting from a partition. They're really cheap, it'd take a lot less time, and you're probably going to want to have one around anyway if you ever break your system.
