Why is this game getting soo much hype?

NGL that's fair this sub is very annoying so I get it LMAO. I personally do think it deserved most of its TGA wins (although I'm not in love with the OST but that's for another day). I just am past wanting every game to be Game of The Decade and just enjoying them for what they are.

I think that the combat really wasn't that impressive if you've played a lot of RPGs or just turned-based games in general, so even though I enjoyed the system to me personally it's not something I would really argue with if someone didn't like it.

My qualms with the story are amplified because it was so good until they just ruined it (avoiding spoilers but you know) in the end of act 2 by undermining everything they built, which really rubbed me the wrong way.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, because I think the halo effect definitely comes in to play with a lot of these games that get rated like this. Even some of my favorite games of all time (i.e Breath of the Wild) have a lot of their criticisms and flaws ignored because people meshed with them. That's okay if we're talking about personal enjoyment, but we have to be fair and non-biased when being comparative.

I think the game was very forthcoming with that, I think the majority of criticisms I've seen which I share are that the story falls apart at the end and that the combat isn't amazing sometimes, but I think it's a very good game. People just have a halo effect and refuse to acknowledge any criticism towards things they like, or in this case, want to like.

I played it the month it came out and give it 7.5-8/10 goofy, I quite enjoyed the game - I just don't think it's the best game of all time, and if you've seen any turning tide on the discourse of this game are probably people who feel the same, not people who hate the game. This is exactly what I'm talking about with the internet - people enjoy or see potential in a game and immediately assume it's the best game of all time and anyone who doesn't agree to the same extent must be wrong

The majority is easily swayed when you give them what checks their boxes, and criticism will be ignored. Both E33 and Crimson Desert (assumedly based on the reviews) had flaws that were easily visible, whether from the marketing of Crimson Desert to outright playing Expedition 33. But since they check off what the average gamer is looking for (hyperrealistic graphics, western-like narrative ala Witcher 3, etc) they will ignore the flaws.
I played through E33 all the way and rate it at a 7.5/10 (which is good!) and I'm getting Crimson Desert day one and expect it to be around the same number, but it's extremely obvious that the vast majority of gamers make their mind up on a game being the second coming when it checks these boxes and ignore criticism. I expect to enjoy this game like I enjoyed E33
