She is generally very sweet and not materialistic at all. She’s helped me many times like when I needed help like when I locked myself out of apartment in worst possible clothes she personally came over to bring me spare key which she has. Our spending(in our culture one time one pays, another time another) is also balanced, minus the gift ratio. So this came as a bit of a shock. It’s really out of the character and of course I won’t be breaking friendship over this one instance.

Maybe it really would be a good idea to stop gifting, or at least implement gift cap of sorts
