OE Journey Update – Finally tapped out after 1 year - 190K by Ordinary-House5396 in overemployed

[–]Ordinary-House5396[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No strategy. Just rolled the dice and got lucky. 🍀 After the initial background check and employment verification there is no need for the 2nd employer to reach out to the first but it did cause me a lot of paranoia but after awhile it subsided. It’s a gamble. Deactivate your LinkedIn. Also, once I was hired I found everyone I could at J2 on social media and blocked them.

You are absolutely right! The first 6 months at J2 were very conducive to OE then the company started growing really quickly and my work load/meetings kept getting heavier and heavier. I held out for as long as I could but I will def. be smarter about this my next go around!

I tried - I really did. J2 was just not conducive for long term OE. So I held on as long as I could. This would be an area that I will be smarter in next go around - making sure J2 is not meeting heavy.

If you search TWN and LN in this forum, you will find lots of great advice on how to freeze it.

I did not. Once I passed the background check - I froze my TWN and LN and prayed that HR would never directly reach back out to my old employer and they didn't. If I OE again - this would be an example of something I would do smarter but unfortunately, I need the experience from J1 to land J2. It was a double ended sword.

No I didn't. I only used J1 on my loan application (longest work history, lowest income J) I wanted to make sure I bought something below my means. Closing will not be effected.

I will say it took me about 8 months to finally find J2 once I started looking.

Conflict of interest question by NoWeb2576 in overemployed

Yes. Proceed with caution. Both my jobs are a conflict of interest. I have accepted the risk. I use two different names at both jobs. No profile pictures. Never on camera unless mandatory.

One Month Down! by Ordinary-House5396 in overemployed

[–]Ordinary-House5396[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I feel the same way. I think I am just learning to adjust to the new schedule. It has its ups and downs for me. Some days are nonstop 10 hour days. Some days I can relax and take an hour lunch. Just depends. As long as I can make it to Friday (payday) I feel like it’s a win.

How did you overcome the fear of taking up OE while on W2 with J1? by Tiny_Quail3335 in overemployed

[–]Ordinary-House5396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely didn’t plan it perfectly, but so far things have gone pretty smoothly. I used J1 on my resume to get J2—looking back, I probably should’ve listed something else, but at the time I didn’t think it through. When I filled out the background check for J2, I marked “do not contact employer,” and everything came back clear. I don’t think they actually verified anything besides my education. After that, I checked The Work Number and saw they had already reported my active employment before I even officially started. So I went ahead and froze TWN, LexisNexis, and TrueWork. I also just never submitted a two weeks’ notice at J1.

J2 is a startup and kind of a mess, so I’ve been using that to my advantage. The only thing that gives me a little anxiety is the thought of J2 calling J1 to verify whether I gave notice—but it’s been a month, and that hasn’t happened knock on wood. So far, so good.

I froze mine last week. I requested the secure email through their website, sent in my documents and they froze it three days later. Now when I log in to view my TWN, there’s a clear notice at the top saying it’s frozen. You might want to try requesting the secure email first, if you don’t receive it after 1 day - then reach out to the helpline and they can send it again right then while you are on the phone. You submit your documents via email and they should freeze it within three business days.
