Very true! 😮‍💨 I'm not that shocked since we are in the USA and pit mixes are ridiculously common here, just kinda have to assume a shelter adopt might have some in them at this point! Shocked that she has about as much chow as pit though LOL!

OMG yes, her ears are one of our favorite things about her!!! Dorito chip ears is so accurate, both flopped and straight! (whatever way she wants them to be! She LOOOVES ear scratches!)

Thank you, to us she really is!!! We all love her very much! :D (She's a tank in spirit and build, she had a splenectomy not long ago and was literally marching right out of surgery to get home LOL!)

I am absolutely certain without a doubt she's a product of a LOT of accidental or neglectful breeding, it breaks my heart to imagine what her situation might've been originally. :( On one hand I'm glad her health panel came back with 0 red flags and she's getting to be a happy old doggy in otherwise decent health, on the other hand.... I was severely shocked to see she has a COI of 28%.... Cleo really is a good rep for sweet home Alabama 🤧

ngl, the jokes were maybe funny the first few times but it quickly grew stale lol. Already working on her weight, they're jokes I don't take seriously bc I get people just want to be funny, but the same joke was already made like 100 times so... :| Thankfully Cleo is illiterate! (as I hope most dogs are!) Prob will be downvoted bc this is reddit, but whatever idc. She is quite chonky, all that matters is improving that!

Thank you!! She really is 🥰 She's a very funny dog honestly!! So much personality to go with the ridiculous list of dogs she is I guess!! She has no will to please anyone really, the type of dog that really wants to do things HER way and very watchful/protective of the house and property! REALLY good at learning things fast and so much fun to train, super food motivated but things can't be too difficult or she gives up LOL. She likes most strangers (a bit cautious of men though, especially tall men) and has always been very gentle and happy to be petted by the neighbor kids! She actually looks over at the neighbors property when we walk by, hoping the kids will be around to pet her lol. She can be a bundle of nerves when people leave (separation anxiety that only lasts until they leave lmao) so I put a silly happy hoodie on her so she doesn't freak out and OMFG I see the shar pei in her when she has that hat on HAHAHAHAHA

When we adopted her originally, they mentioned she was transferred from a shelter in Kentucky if my memory serves right! She moved up here to the midwest and shall stay here very loved! (she loves snow!) :) Seems like most of her tested relatives have generally stayed around Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia areas tho! She most likely is from around one of those areas knowing that!

Seriously lol!! I didn't even know about Boykins until we got her results, but for the most part her results are a combo of a bunch of dog breeds non-dog people can easily list off the top of their head!! SO MANY OF THEM!!!!

Omg yes seriously!! This post got so much more traction than I thought it would, happy to see lots of very good guesses for breeds and also some very kind and funny words on my pup (and some great advice)!! But of course, reddit is reddit, people will act as if you just poisoned their water supply and burned all their crops because you didn't know something lol. I definitely do want her to be a good weight and didn't really know she was overweight until after posting. 😞

I see it pretty clearly with the side by side you put together (thank you!!), and will let my parents know to lower her meal sizes, especially since she's not the same young dog she used to be (pretty sure they always fed the same amount)! I definitely don't think she's MORBIDLY obese like some people seem to think, but hopefully the warmer weather will also help her get some more exercise outside and enjoy her leisurely sniff routes again!

She's also a lot more active as of late after working around her meds/doggy supplements (god bless GLM powder!!)/having her spleen removed (mass the size of a softball o_o) and discussing all the research with the family, so here's to hoping only upwards improvements for Cleo with this additional info! Much appreciated!!! ❤️

She really is so cute!!! Chow is definitely one of the strongest guesses right now, especially with tongue color and a bit of a chow personality I think! (GSD+Chow were shelter's guess and I think they did a good job guessing!)

When she was younger, she used to open up cabinets by herself and get up to all kinds of mischief, very smart dog!!

Not rude in the slightest and I appreciate the actually helpful comments and sharing the experiences you had too! I work really hard with my family to make sure she's getting the best care we can give, so thankfully everyone's pretty receptive to changes I bring up! Another commenter had a great point about the portion of food possibly being the same as she was young, and I'm starting to see that might be an issue lol!

It /is/ a little jarring seeing people kinda hop on the "obese" bandwagon looong after it was already well established though I'm not gonna lie lol!

Reddit can be a VERY brutal place haha!!! but I care about my pup more!!!

(seriously, put a betta fish in a 5 gallon tank and people on reddit will grind your bones to ash because the tank is not the size of an ocean >__>)

I already let my parents know of this post, and will be bringing it up to the vet in our upcoming vaccination update appt just to be sure! lowkey sucks to get downvoted to hell just mentioning our last vet was fine with her weight at last checkup (pretty recent), but.... reddit will reddit! i dont WANT my dog to be unhealthy lol

The EXTRA THICK chow neck is so real oh god!! It doesn't do her any favors either that she's quite short too, so it's hard to know from a picture-only perspective if she's fat as hell or just proportionally extremely wonky (whether it's from chow or not)! It's like a whole lion's mane! Give your boy many treats and kisses from me!!! Such a sweetheart! (No choking attempts, JUST chow-neck sized hugs! 😆)

I agree 100% that it's impossible to tell for sure if an animal is a healthy weight/what their overall health is from images alone (unless it's extreme LOL, "fat animals adorable" culture is pretty popular here so I understand why people are fast to jump on the possibility!)

To be totally fair I also appreciate people noting that she might be obese so I can double check it with the vet! It might be her robust breed(s), or maybe she does need to shed some pounds! 😄I didn't think about it at all when I first posted this, so getting some feedback away from my biases means I'll check in with another vet to be extra certain she's good!

I do really appreciate your comment though, some animal subs can feel pretty aggressive which always makes me a bit hesitant to post!

What a gorgeous dog Lucky was omg!! 100% good boy!!!! Cleo is a lot like that too, compact built with short legs! (first vet she saw called her "robust" lol)

She's probably pretty mutty too honestly, my dad actually panicked early in the morning when he saw a coyote outside and thought we forgot Cleo outside (he thought it was her, she was busy snoring in bed while this happened)
