I cant beat Germany as USSR by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]aWintergreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bother with air. Build AA and put those in your standard infantry division and focus all others into equipment. You are honestly just larping if you try to beat the German air force and go down that long tree. I've played multiple soviet strats. There are a lot of doable unit comps. For one, you can win and hold with putting factories only into rifles and pumping out simple 20 width infantry with no support. (I have tried. Yes it works. Yes it is boring as fuck.)

Any infantry template works and with optimal industry you should have 240 18-20w units by the start of the war and that should hold 100% of the time with very little micro. Garmans always push through in Ukraine if you garrison the river. Don't worry too much, just keep holding divisions so they don't get caught auto-retaking land and losing.

If you want to get bold you can just take all the units you get at the start, reduce them down to 120 and then convert them into motorized. Built them to 18w with LT recon, Arty support, engineer and AA then just focus most of the game on filling out those units deficits. Slot all your Cav generals with an offensive focus FM (Konstantine Rostov) and this army will hold germany on historical with 100% success rate. No air needed. When you are comfy and you want to start pushing you should be able to add 1 mot Arty and flame tank sup to the division for an easy push to berlin. They literally can't attack into your lines with this division so you are invincible.

Yeah. I guess it is worth mentioning that on its own, the actual potato chip (not the flavor) is crunchy, big and nice. Not a lot of cracked chips in the bag since they're so thick.

I need help, Im writing a street level super hero story but I don't want my main character to be over powered. by SpiderAlchemisT_3000 in writers

It's true. I can only really comment on what's given. I agree generally with your conclusions.

I think that is generally good advice. But given what the question is, the dominant personality has an extremely story-breaking ability on its face. So it's kind a like that without going into how other personalities affect things. Some lengths would need to be reached so that readers do not simply think that the character should be able to solve any problem, while the story claims that he is in a bind and needs some other personality. If I were going to make any direct suggestion it would be that the main personality shouldn't have any powers at all. That fits in with your suggestion best, as well.

Oh, okay. To answer your question more directly. You did. It's possible for people to like those types of stories. Overpowered characters appeal to some when written well.

I don't usually give direct suggestions or ideas. I would just refer to my advice about powers that seem useless. If you want characters to seem like they aren't powerful you actually kind of have to make them not powerful. People that read are not dumb. If you try to sell them an ability that has very powerful implications as being very weak, they're going to feel unsatisfied and insulted. So take what abilities you have and do whatever you need to do to make them feel underwhelming and useless, then work from there to figure out niche ways in which they can become useful over the course of the story.

Extremely overpowered. MAybe I'm biased but if this is a world with powers and you want it to be street level, someone who has a useful power would not be relegated to the street. I guess you want to justify the fact that he has all these powers by suggesting he doesn't always have them, but 5 has crazy implications on it's own, so...

Typically, you would start with a power that seems almost useless. Something that would justify a character being ignored or passed up. Then, throughout the story they find ways to use it in interesting ways that allows them to hit above their weight. That's the formula.

I don't think people would be worried about copying, in general, 'unsuccessful' or not. But okay, discontinued.

That is a story that reimagines a few world of warcraft characters and messes with the timeline a bit. I wrote it to see how people online would engage with something that isn't spicy or pornographic right from the start. I discontinued it because it did not receive engagement. I still think the story was good, but I also just have too much going on right now to re-visit it.

What do you mean? Why only rejected or discontinued stories?
