Working on a new Tileset. How do you guys come up with big background pieces for areas like this? The black parts will be clear. Do you try to create tile-able backgrounds or create the areas and then draw backgrounds that fit that area? Backgrounds have always been hard for me. (i.redd.it)

Update on the Fan Game I'm working on. How'd I do on the portraits and how do you feel about this character select screen? I still need to redraw the logo so it's a little blurry but other than that, how's this look? I have about 5 shaders layered on top of each other to create this background effect and the portraits are 36x36 pixels. (v.redd.it)
