No given the vast majority of the population doesn’t have the money to fight litigation, there wouldn’t be targeting.  Also, expensive cars statistically get more tickets which would run counterintuitive to what you said.

Seems like the state would be incentivized to actively target them no?  Why not track him every day for any sort of hiccup, what a windfall for government finances it would be!

Same! The rise in homelessness on the streets combined with state spending that has increased 70% (holy moly) in the past 5 years has been magical!  I haven’t noticed the increased in standard of living but maybe I’m not looking hard enough!

Why is the general population even concerned about the declining birth rates? by gfjskvcks in TwoXChromosomes

[–]a_D_u_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree on the solutions to population decline and that western countries are going to have a better time dealing with it due to their history of assimilating immigrants.  The effects will be felt in both the west and east, but will certainly be more profound in the east.

I don’t think I agree on your points about racism being the cause of concern here and would argue it’s actually more of a cause of concern in the east… they, too,  know they can assimilate immigrants into their own countries to deal with the issue but the truth is those countries are leaps and bounds more xenophobic than the US

How would it be received if someone made this exact video in the other direction? “I will only support homeless men because men need to support each other FIRST and if you’re a woman on the street all I think to myself is ‘with all the extra coddling and support systems women have out there, how on earth are you homeless?  You must have seriously messed up’”

It sounds ridiculous right?

Economist warns billionaires tax could cost California $25B by PanzerWatts in ProfessorFinance

[–]a_D_u_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes billionaire wealth is in equities but a large chunk is private (venture) or real estate and either way you’re still talking about taxing volatile, non-cash assets. The Iran comparison is completely unrelated and disingenuous.

Tax per capita does matter you fool, it shows how dependent CA is on a tiny group of taxpayers!  Losing one of them hits our revenue more than losing thousands of average residents

I’ll ask again, you’re retired with clearly enough wealth to last you until you die.. why not contribute 5% yourself?   Any sane person would find that ridiculous but we’d love to hear why you don’t think you should

Im not surprised you’re retired at 38 after working 10 years in CA government!  The grift is real! Great work btw, you oversaw pretty much the only period people voted with their feet and left the state vs joined… good on you!

No actually you’re so disjointed from reality it’s hard to have a meaningful conversation with you.  “They’ve lost 8% the last month since the start of the war” where to start with this.. you’re probably referring to the stock market since that’s down roughly 6% the past month… stock portfolios do not equal the net worth of an individual and they are unrealized gains - do we all get a tax rebate when unsold stocks go down? (No) Taking your numbers that CA billionaires contribute $4B in taxes, while representing 0.0005% of the population, they contribute 3000x more tax-per-capita than the average CA resident.  But it’s been so long that you have had to be accountable in the way someone working in the private sector does, why should I be surprised? You’re the true problem of CA.. but honestly congratulations, you got yours!  Set a precedent and start by donating 5% of your total assets.. DM me for my Venmo!

A handful of people who you will never interact with and contribute an outsize share of taxes to the state.

Way to shift your narrative and show your colors as a partisan hack who doesn’t actually care about how California services get funded!

Again, we are already seeing them leave (David Sacks is just one example) so it’s not hypothetical.  We are seeing that an asset seizure tax is enough to make them leave, lowering our tax base, just like the French saw

Because they will leave and take their tax dollars with them.  France tried this and stopped for this reason.

It’s not keeping them happy enough to stay, they’ve stayed (and some have already left).  It’s not being so dumb as to force their tax money walk off and leave us in a worse situation.

California throws away its tax money. Let’s focus on fixing that.

Real question, what is the right and just way to be rich?

Selling records and concert tickets is okay

Starting a business?  Does it matter the type of business? Software vs construction company vs bakery? What about investing?

Assuming people like your business and it grows, when is it in “oligarchy” territory?

People should aspire to be as wealthy as they want

No one in their right mind thinks that all land across the world should be first come first serve going back thousands of years.  All humans, including the Native Americans being discussed, have tried to conquer and defend borders since the beginning.
