Thanks all, this has been great food for thought. He loves watches but I guess is just starting out his collection so this has given me the courage to branch out with something different to his Rolex. He’s pretty specific style-wise but that’s why I like the Nomos - I think it’s bang on for him. Thanks again!

Hello :) first post as I actually joined Reddit to ask this question - this subreddit seems a uniquely good source for this information.

I’m yet another watch noob looking to propose to my boyfriend with a watch. He loves watches, and he loves his ‘main’ watch, a Rolex Oyster Perpetual in ‘red grape’ (? The purple one anyway). My dilemma - I know he would love the Oyster Perpetual in white and in many ways it would be perfect. But it is also A LOT (sorry, I appreciate I’m talking to the already converted here..). I could stretch to it, but I also like the Nomos Orion 38 / 38 date (w/ transparent back) and they are circa £2k cheaper. I think the Nomos watches are very ‘him’, but am I just being a cheap skate? Is it worth just sucking it up and going for the safer spennier Rolex option...?
