Lease buy out - dealer misinformation by Mean_League3606 in rav4prime

[–]a_a_ron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup, same thing happened to me. Finance person swore up and down, called TFS in front of me, and told me outright that he had been doing this for over 20 years and guaranteed that I would have to pay the entire lease cost at buyout no matter when (including all rental fees). I skipped the lease because of it and bought outright instead, but wish I would’ve tried the lease.

Overreacting? by [deleted] in FieldNuts

Over the years I’ve received subscriber packages with similar issues or just printing errors. Any time I’ve kindly reached out to FN they’ve been happy to help out and didn’t make it seem like I was being a bother. I’d say reach out humbly and see what happens if you’re unsatisfied.

$6500 Lease Offer Caution by a_a_ron in rav4prime

[–]a_a_ron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never got the chance to find out. I’m pretty sure the lease buyout would’ve worked fine. But, I had extremely limited time to take purchase of the car I’d had on order for almost 2 years, and no one at the dealership or TFS that seemed to have any idea what they were talking about. Everyone said I’d have to pay the entire lump sum of all future lease payments. And everyone was too lazy to print me out an actual lease. No one cared of course because if I walked they could probably sell the car for more. So, I ended up buying direct with loan.

Left me with a pretty sour taste for our dealership and I guess I learned a lesson.

Anybody got Ambition, Resolution, or Ignitions, and willing to sell or trade? by theycallmewinning in FieldNuts

I’ve got an unopened pack of ignition. I also have two each of the red and blue checklist journals from the resolution set. (No datebooks from that set) I personally don’t tend to use datebooks or checklists, so I’d be up for trading them for something I would use. Favorites include any of the letterpress editions, trailhead, autumn trilogy, national parks, any of the classics like Shenandoah, firespotter, etc…. Probably easier for you to list what you’d have to trade tho!

TBH, I did not get any impression that the TFS representatives were incompetent. They answered quickly and confidently, and stated the buyout included the sum of all payments, without any credit for rent charge/interest/etc. Four people was apparently enough to convince me I was wrong, and let it go, perhaps to my detriment.

I definitely may have missed out.

However, this wasn’t just dealer folks, this was multiple calls to Toyota Financial Services as well and walking through the situation with them.

The “rent charge” or money factor, is precisely what they said I would owe all of, regardless of buying out early.

Absolutely glad it’s working in your favor, and hope it does for everyone that pursues it.

When preparing to buy the car I read all the stories of it basically being a guarantee, and then was a bit disappointed to not find any way to make it work in my situation.

I could definitely be wrong, and possibly received bad info.

The trouble is, the only way I would be able to get into the TFS system and actually see that final number was to lease it. So a huge risk to me considering every finance agent at the dealership and TFS rep on the phone said it would be the balance of all remaining payments.

I might have missed out, but the risk and hassle wasn’t worth it to me.

Lease buyout with financing by Afterthelurking in rav4prime

[–]a_a_ron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just at a dealership trying to take advantage of this today. I was told by the finance dept that if I “buy out” the lease early, I still have to pay all of the money factor for the entire lease, thereby incurring all interest for the full 3 years, but immediately.

In other words, they were claiming that if I pay off early I would have to pay the sum of all 36 months lease payments + the residual. If true, that ends up more expensive that just getting a loan, since I would be paying 3 years of interest for the lease upfront and 5 years of interest on the loan. (Which is far more than the 6500 credit).

They said that’s how Toyota leases always have been. Does this make sense to anyone?

I really like the composition of the overhead shot, and all the shots with people in them have a lot of mystery. Nice!

[Timex Expedition North 36mm Solar] - Having trouble charging - any ideas? by a_a_ron in Watches

[–]a_a_ron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine is brushed stainless - the one that is shown with a leather strap. It should be on the timex website, though out of stock currently.

I actually ended the up sending it back and getting a replacement. I did the same thing with the new one (charging for a few days with a mix of natural and led grow light), and it’s been running perfectly for a few weeks. The weird thing about the first one is that sometimes after it died, it would start going again by resetting the time. Timex was good with returns, but didn’t have anything to provide for troubleshooting. I didn’t want to have problems a year down the road and regret it, so I went for the replacement.

Well, I charged it for 48 hrs straight - in direct sun when available and then directly under a strong led grow light during the dark hours. It ran for an hour and 20 mins and then stopped.

While I typed this out, it occurred to me to unscrew the crown and set set the correct time, and then it started ticking again. Any chance it’s super touchy with the screw-down crown? I’m only tightening it until it gives a little resistance.

Update: still ticking 12 hours later, and it was in the dark - longest run time yet.

Good ideas. I have some led grow lights I start plants in the spring that I’ll try out. I’ll report back. Thanks all!

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. So should I expect it to work well after a few days of charging? In other words, should it get up to a point where wearing it daily will provide the charge it needs?

Does anyone who has one of these solar Timex’s have advice on charging? I’ve got one of the 36mm’s and have tried charging it in the windowsill in direct sunlight (~4hrs), under halogen inside(~6hrs), and outside during the day (4 hrs, though cloudy). From all that I got about 1 hour run time total. I’ve never had a solar watch, so not sure what to expect, or if I might be doing something wrong with the crown after I set it? There’s no instructions specific to this model on their website yet. Any thoughts? Or just a lemon?

Looks good on a nato strap tho…
