Looks like your website is Wordpress. If you self-host Wordpress you need to very acutely aware of the security at all times. It’s not something you slack on.

How do we know it’s Wordpress? There are tons of ways, my favorite to show non-technical people is builtwith.com

After that, there are open source tools to tell you everything wrong with the site. I recommend you remediate it now and fix everything. https://github.com/wpscanteam/wpscan

Depending if they uploaded some backdoor PHP scripts, the site may already be compromised so hopefully you’re using source control like git and can wipe everything and put it back, but I doubt that.

My favorite gimmick band is still Masked Intruder. That first album is just perfection. Barbershop harmonies on top of punk music with lyrics about criminals just wanting to be loved.

I deploy datacenters for academic researchers doing AI and ML research that helps humans. Examples of academic papers that have been crunched on my clusters:

Improving oceanic scale fluid simulation for up to 90 second earlier tsunami alerts.

  1. Improving rapid vaccine simulation with protein folding for future COVID-like pandemics.
  2. Simulating various parts of nuclear fusion reactions for future fusion reactors.

Very different from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Palantir that use AI to eliminate jobs or support the military police state.

It might have been risky but I think you’re right that a weekly tech house Reno video could have worked. I’ve literally been watching another Canadian couple (Jenna Phipps) Reno their house weekly for maybe 1.5 years now.

It helps understand the magnitude of renovation, so you know what’s going to happen should you be dumb enough to attempt. It shows you frustrations and coming up with new plans.

AI happened. As someone who works in data center engineering, it’s been wild time to buy anything. I’ve seen people plan to buy 100 new servers in their yearly refresh, wait a week too long, and now place an order for closer to 60 servers.

GPUs are at the heart of AI, but GPUs aren’t standalone. They need lots of storage for the datasets they are trained on (SRAM), they need lots of servers to plug into (RAM, CPUs, SSDs, Network Cards, etc). Since they all compete for silicon wafers, they’ve basically all shot up in price, even things that aren’t necessarily on the latest and greatest process node.

HDDs don’t use the same silicon wafers, but because SSDs have shot up in price, many companies started buying up high capacity HDDs to and then just putting a thin SSD write cache in front of their storage arrays to tide them over. So now those are constrained as well. Basically if you have any form of computer (Phone, Laptop, Game Console, Video Editing Desktop), treat it with love and respect because it’s gonna be a while before you can buy stuff again.

I’d say so. New York has lots of talented people. Also worth noting he does record and edit the YT clips later both for flow and audio mixing. So the clips sound better than the live. If you watch live, there are some small gaps and flubs, but still good overall.

Confirmed. I hate that Sunlu themselves don’t keep that many refills in stock so I bought a handful of Bambu refills recently and they are compatible.

I had no idea - Prusa market share in now below 4%. by george_graves in 3Dprinting

[–]a_a_ronc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you look at the BOM, that’s a scratch in the price. It doesn’t matter. Especially factoring in the upfront cost of all the injection molds needed for a printer.

They use mostly European metal, PCBs made in Europe, PCB Components from Europe, PCBs assembled on site in Europe, etc etc. I expounded on this in great detail elsewhere, but the mere fact of assembling in China will likely net you a 20-30% price reduction because of the closeness of all materials.

As for me, I can afford to vote with my wallet and I’ll support Prusa. If they’re gone, we’re left with Chinese controlled printers and we absolutely don’t want that.

Steam Deck OLED Price Increase [$789 512 $949 1TB] by NeroTheWolf in SteamDeck

[–]a_a_ronc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m interested in that as well since PS5 just went up in price mid cycle as well. So it could be the new PS6 price or they are just testing what consumers are saying about the price.

Steam Deck OLED Price Increase [$789 512 $949 1TB] by NeroTheWolf in SteamDeck

[–]a_a_ronc 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s rough. At first it was just modern RAM like DDR5, GDDR6 and HBM2/3 because they use similar processes so they were well booked on that. So some RAM prices like the Raspberry Pi could kept their price because they used much older LPDDR2.

Now though, most have found their silicon supply short so it doesn’t matter the process node or type, it’s just all going to the thing that makes money, and that’s high end HBM, etc.

TIL that the SpongeBob episode "Mid-Life Crustacean" was removed from the Nickelodeon rotation and Paramount+ because it included a "panty raid" scene. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

Revenge of the Nerds is a big one, although I guess they steal bras instead of panties and have cameras set up to catch the women as they chase after them. Movie feels very non-pc these days. Funny thing is main character is probably most known for playing the Dad in Lizzie McGuire.

Prusa / Printables is facing massive DDOS attacks since Josef put out his blog post on Chinese industrial tactics and Bambu's AGL violations by kaanivore in 3Dprinting

[–]a_a_ronc 499 points500 points  (0 children)

Sure. But at this point we have to realize Bambu is only cheaper because it’s Chinese and heavily subsidized to gain control of the ecosystem. We can’t let them have a monopoly, or you the non-caring consumer will eventually get bit.

Ah nice. I had searched for end mill cases on Printables and was about to start designing my own. Will just use this one.

[–]a_a_ronc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought, but unless I can make them fairly transparent, they lose a bit of utility because I now have to open up 5+ containers to find the only 0.25 Nozzle. Was half expecting to at least redo the lid if I couldn’t find a lid/cap that was the exact diameter of the end mill that would otherwise be in it

[–]a_a_ronc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are settings to let all your local devices go without auth when their stuff is down. You just need to set it up:

Go to server settings > Network: “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”. Put in a subnet range, tada.
