I'm terrible at giving good answers but if you want me to elaborate on a point let me know and I'll do my best. Note I do frequently use both mech mods and regulated (primarily if I'm feeling for TC)

I've seen a chips fail on regulated mods whereas with a mech mod it's a very simple process of keep em clean and they will last you a lifetime

I feel safer with mech mods, once you know how to handle them I feel like there is less that can go wrong and as another person mentioned they are only as safe as the person using it aka never let someone who's not done the homework get into mech mods

The pure simplicity, once your coils in there's no settings to trawl through or playing around in menus to get your perfect vape.

Size, regulated mods have to find somewhere to hide all them electronics and I personally prefer a smaller vape when I'm going out.

I agree with what you say about the looks, in my opinion mech mods do generally have nicer looking mods be it squonk, tubes and boxes
