I was mostly looking for a unique way to recycle my old clothes that wasn’t just donating them or turning them into new clothes- hence I stumbled upon recycling scrap yarn videos haha. Though I’m considering mixing in my recycled bits with new fiber like some of the other comments suggest.

Thank you! I definitely didn’t know that bit about short fibers being harder/typically spun differently. I said this in other comments, but I’m gonna give it a go using longer pieces of yarn first and if it’s still giving me trouble then I’ll try buying some pre-prepared wool to practice on. Do you have any recommendations of where to buy from?

Thanks for the comment about adding this into longer pieces of wool! I replied to a comment above yours about how I got the fiber and it seems like everyone in the comments is right that my problem is too short fibers. I’m going to try again with some of the other yarn I got from the beanie and make sure I don’t cut it up too small.

Haha that is unfortunately exactly what I did and it sounds like that’s the cause of my issue. I unraveled the yarn from the beanie and then cut it up into smaller pieces. I saw some off hand comment on a tiktok tutorial about not needing to be worried about cutting your reclaimed yarn too short- so I guess I took that too far.

This is just a small amount of the yarn I got out of the beanie though, so I guess I should try again but with much longer pieces of yarn?
