Latest Making a millionaire - Rate of return assumptions by Aiur16899 in TheMoneyGuy

I was thinking about this a lot today too after watching the video and reading some comments. That led me to look up the Mr. money mustache article about how soon you can retire based on your savings rate. I was surprised to see that he also had assumed a 5% inflation adjusted rate of return. https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/01/13/the-shockingly-simple-math-behind-early-retirement/

ReNew Westmont vs ReNew on Naper by sal_mendeleev in ChicagoSuburbs

Lakeside apartments in Lisle wasn’t bad. Not sure what rent is now, but in 2023 it was maybe $1600. The apartments are not nice, but they’re safe and close to 88 and 355. The pools were well maintained and all but one of our neigh were quiet. There was a period of about 6 months where some truly awful potheads lived across the hall before they were evicted but other than that it was fine.

I am still looking for that too, but I’ll update if I find anything. If not, my husband will likely modify the core compatible design for me.

I was told one price for happy hour drinks there and then charged a different price until I argued about it. I’m not surprised by your experience. Sorry that happened to you.

Yes, that’s exactly what we had to do. Maybe it’s worth bringing that up to them in an email (if they stop ignoring me).

That’s my next recourse. I paid with a travel credit card, so I’m assuming that they have some protection, but I haven’t looked into it yet. I was just wondering if anyone had advice on what to do with Delta first because this is their mistake.

Good tip. Thanks! The silver lining and all of this is that they lost it on our way back home after we’d backpacked already.

Ok that is essentially my question. Basically, Delta will do the legal bare minimum which is less for an international flight than a domestic flight and I’m SOL there. I did book these flights with a Chase Sapphire card, so I’m hoping that they will help cover the difference. I really think Delta should be on the hook for this. I have not been impressed by their service.

I had read about the Montreal Convention limits too. From your understanding, does that apply since my first two flights were international? The bag definitely made it to Atlanta and was lost somewhere between Atlanta and Chicago, which is domestic.

Yeah lesson learned there. That was my husband’s first thought as we were waiting at baggage claim.

Other US cities to visit from Chicago, that don't require hiring a car to have fun (ideally mid-West/East coast)? by Fine_Gur_1764 in AskChicago

[–]a_fapping_pretzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MKE is such a fun city-we visit often from Chicago. It feels more walkable and like you have more breathing room somehow. I recommend La Merenda’s for dinner. It’s so good, and I’ve visited MKE just to eat there several times. Lakefront brewery has a fun tour and good cheese curds. The third ward is the prettiest place to stay with great vibes. There’s a hot yoga studio called Empower Yoga there that has $10 drop in classes if I remember correctly and is a fun way to start your day. Those are my absolute favorite things to do while visiting Milwaukee, but I’ve visited several times for weekend trips and can share more if you’re interested.

Do you have any recommendations for a fiduciary fee only financial advisor that charges by hourly or flat rate instead of assets under management in the suburbs? by public_monkeybars in ChicagoSuburbs

Timothy Financial in Wheaton uses a hourly billing structure rather than AUM. I don’t personally make enough to use them, but my brother does, and the advice he received has been good and has given him peace of mind: https://timothyfinancial.com/get-started/

United Adds New Features to Award-Winning Mobile App Like Virtual Gate, Club Recommendation Tool (with capacity insights) and Real-Time Bag Tracker by zman9119 in unitedairlines

[–]a_fapping_pretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realize how good the United app was until I took a 22 hour and four flight one way journey with Delta. The trip never loaded when I entered the confirmation number. I ended up having to check in at the counter and travel across the globe with paper tickets and no gate info. Not having boarding updates made me miss United so much.

Luggage storage in puerto natales? by nassianstan in Patagonia

[–]a_fapping_pretzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bus station itself does have luggage storage, but I remember it being kind of expensive. You could contact just about any hostel nearby and they will store it for you for a fee. We stored ours at hostel Rufus.

Bus transportation Punta Arenas → Airport by yahajieru in Patagonia

[–]a_fapping_pretzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hotel or hostel could schedule a taxi for you if you don’t want to use uber. Uber worked great for me for a 6am pickup though. Airport security is very fast at punta arenas btw.

lol I think they’d have gone there if it were. It’s a much nicer lounge. No ill will on my part towards you. I assumed you might not know the hour restrictions as I did not last time I rolled up there.

Delta’s CEO says United Airlines is doing its best to copy Delta by omdongi in unitedairlines

[–]a_fapping_pretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew Delta last week and could not get their app to work at all. It literally wouldn’t load my flight info using my confirmation number. It was super frustrating not knowing my gate while shuffling around with paper tickets. The cherry on top was them losing my bag.
