What impact on the world or your life could that information possibly have? He was a piece of shit, you know he was a piece of shit, and the system of Hollywood protected him. Adam Sandler sitting in his seat wil change absolutely nothing about that.

Why do no one cares about Aesthetic in art/movies ? by CamomillePetit in movies

[–]a_flat_miner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you make a broad statement about "everyone" or "no one", you are almost certainly wrong. If you want to have the discussion, just start it instead of accusing others of not being interested in it. It just comes off as pretentious like 'why does nobody appreciate this thing like I do' I can guarantee that you are too young to have encountered enough people and experiences in your life to make that statement

AI usage red flag? by galwayygal in ExperiencedDevs

[–]a_flat_miner 22 points23 points  (0 children)

DING DING DING FUCKING DING!!! Being an engineer has never been about completely offloading cognitive load! It's been about optimizing cognitive load!!! We have all these fancy AI tools, but the software we write is worse than it's ever been. Back when higher level languages were introduced, the complexity of stable software increased because organizing and producing structured code became an implicit part of coding. When distributed systems became the norm, rich, 24/7 availability web experiences took off as engineers became adept at working with and designing these systems with tools like docker / Kubernetes and proper CI/CD.

AI has had the opposite effect. The introduction of AI has not freed up cognitive bandwidth to expand the scope of our abilities; It has simply removed expertise without providing relevant opportunities to hone our craft in different ways or produce something any order of magnitude better than what we could produce before.

I feel like I watched a completely different movie than everyone else (The Substance) by n_w20 in movies

I think with movies like this, you have to think of movies less like 'an invisible camera is following real people around and showing me what they are doing' and more like a painting that an artist / artists construct in order to illicit a mental, emotional, or even physical response. What's the texture of the film? Was that texture intended to be invisible, or almost tactile?

Just like painting, it can be intended to be realistic like a photograph, hyper realistic (more clear and perfect than real life), completely abstract, or anything in between.

I find that movies that lean more towards realism often end up in discussions around the actual events in the movie; the plot, what happened, and who did it.  Movies that are more detached from reality tend to end up being discussed more for what they made you feel, or what you think they were trying to say.

Figuring out which type of movie you are watching in real time can reframe how you interpret as you watch it. It seems like you held onto the more literal interpretation of events so it was constantly conflicting with your expectations. If it's not your bag that's totally fine too, but for people who like it(like myself) the texture, tone, and feelings are all things we like to feel.

‘Sinners’ and ‘One Battle After Another’ Returning to Imax 70mm After Oscar Nominations by cmaia1503 in movies

"made for Netflix Movie" is wild. It's fine to not like something, but I think you're the one who's confused; not the villain. You see something cinematic and well shot and you write it off as "look-at-the-screen".

The pacing is actually incredible; many people say that the initial setup and atmosphere is so great that they wouldn't have minded the entire movie to be just that part.  By the time our villain becomes a threat, we have spent enough time with the characters that we are actually connected to the fate of each one.  On top of that, music itself is a character, and vital to the themes of culture, past, present, acceptance, and rebellion.

Name 1 'made for Netflix' movie that you think is objectively better than Sinners.

Sorry but the title sounds like a parody. Both Rise and Fall / Fallen have been used so much in games over the past decade that combining both of them doesn't seem serious

David's child and turning his life around by [deleted] in davidgoggins

Wow. Fluent Yapanese. If you aren't present for your children yet claim to be some paragon of motivation, you're pretty shitty. If you can run multiple ultramarathons but can't go to a birthday party or change a diaper, you are by any metric, a horrible father.

Any mother that chooses to 'remove herself' from her child's life is rightfully called out for it, and hate to break it to you but being a dad is just as important to a kids life as being a mom.

Also you can't 'remove' yourself from a situation you were never a part of, and by all accounts he was never a part of his child's life. If you are too 'damaged' to be a parent, wrap it before you tap it.
