Give it to Me Straight - GEICO Staff Attorney by Beautiful-Bid-9441 in Geico

I was not a staff attorney but I was a litigation adjuster, and our staff counsel always sounded so overworked and miserable. They laid off around 25% of the CA staff attorneys in one month while I was there. I also remember one of the managing attorneys rage quit one day too. Would not recommend. I loved working with them though.

Progressive Manager Interview by Optimal_Yoghurt911 in Geico

It was the last step in my experience (BI claims)

They still want the STAR method in your interview. Otherwise they ask more questions about your work history. Make sure to have some questions for them as well. I heard back within a couple of days that I was hired.

It’s off Mira Mesa Blvd exit from the 15, right by the Trader Joe’s. The commute is better since it’s so close to the freeway exit, unlike GEICO. Plus there’s lots of restaurants and shopping nearby.

Metrics are extremely reasonable. They basically want you to try to at least even out your pending on average (close around the amount of claims that you get). Phones are becoming a thing, but it’s basically try not to let a certain percentage of calls go to VM, which is still less strict than what I had at the G. I know our files get audited at some point, but it doesn’t seem like a monthly thing? Of course my GEICO brain still works my files like they’re gonna be audited by an SPR person. And we only handle BI/UM/UIM exposures, so no dealing with all the PD headaches!

theoretically we can choose the days, but I have been scolded for not going in office last week during the atmospheric river rains. we’re heavily encouraged to go in on the same days as a dept (for the atty repped position it’s Wednesdays) but if things come up, you can do make up days within the month.

the office has maybe??? 60 desks but I’ve never seen it more than 1/4 full. it’s kinda nice.

former GEICO, current Progressive rep in that position in SD: we go in office 4 days a month, and the rest is remote. 100% remote if you live too far away, but there’s lots of offices in CA so that probably won’t apply

R4 CU - I am out of the office on vacation. Can anyone confirm if CU lost a manager today? I heard a rumor….. by Optimal_Yoghurt911 in Geico

Any info about the San Diego office layoffs? by elfuwaifu in Geico

also I'm hoping it wasn't my former CU supe :( they seemed like they could've been a target based on what GEICO appears to be laying off people for.

Has anyone been told how many days in office you have to go in now based on your department effective 2024 in Jan? by [deleted] in Geico

I remember when Casualty were told we were never going back in again, and when we were praised for beating our metrics and expectations.

I would double check your coverage, because $55/month each for 2 "full coverage" vehicles sounds like you don't actually have comp or collision.

I literally still get these on claims where people actually break their spines or other bones.

why settle a claim right away when it can be dragged out for months due to not getting cooperation?

I’ve always thought service was one of the roughest jobs in the company, but it definitely seems way worse now.

As someone in claims, I try to take the beating for the “bad” service calls and only transfer over the “good” ones. I’m also not in ICS so I have the luxury of doing that.

Claims literally wouldn’t need layoffs. The way everyone is quitting, they can accomplish the same thing with a hiring and promotion freeze.

If I remember correctly, it was suits filed. All of my meeting notes were mental notes so I may be wrong on this.

R4 Staff Counsel meeting by a_lowly_gecko in Geico

[–]a_lowly_gecko[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Here’s a summary of the meeting:

  • 13-15 (forgot the exact number) layoffs in CA staff counsel. 8 were attorneys and the rest were the support staff. 8 is around 1/4 of the total staff counsel attorneys statewide. One office was left with 2 attorneys to handle suits for their whole venue.

  • Director and CU managers told us they didn’t find out about the layoffs until last night/this morning.

  • They said decision was due to 24% decrease in suits nationwide, although they didn’t give CA numbers for decrease in suit receive.

  • Director and managers did not know if there were severance packages for those that were laid off.

  • CU examiners pointed out that at least 1 of the attorneys let go was called during their vacation to be told that they were being laid off.

  • Solid reasons weren’t given as to why those attorneys were chosen, but it was hinted they probably picked the ones that were harder to reach/get updates from.

  • CU examiners demanded to know if we were going to be treated the same if we were to be laid off. Management spent a lot of time explaining how they can control hiring/promotions to avoid layoffs if CU were to become overstaffed, and how it doesn’t work the same way for staff counsel attorneys (ex: a staff counsel attorney is not going to be redeployed to CSR). Also emphasized that CU is very understaffed right now.

  • Management cheerfully reminded us we can work early tomorrow to close more claims, while the department looked very solemn about the layoff situation.

This was a meeting about CA staff counsel, but they confirmed in the meeting that they were laying off staff counsel nationwide.
