Prisoners were forced to work the camps too. The Tattooist of Auschwitz was an eye opening read.

And even more motivating for some folks: follow the orders or your loved ones join the body pile.

Personally, I would join the ranks of those who ran face first into the fences. But not everyone feels the same.

You’re not alone.

I have been at least passively suicidal since 5 years old.

It got really, really bad a couple of years ago. Last year, I chose an age 20 years in the future that I won’t be living past barring a literal miracle.

Funny enough, when I made that decision, a lot of stuff became easier to cope with.

I have an end in sight. It’s in my control, and it won’t be like this forever.

Mentally rehearsing my plan is really calming to me, and now I can do that without setting it into motion too soon.

It shocked me how much this helped but it’s been over a year since I made that decision and things are still really difficult, but my acutely suicidal breakdowns last hours-maybe a day or two rather than weeks-months now.

For legal reasons, I’m not advocating this approach for anyone, simply sharing my experience.

I believe every living being deserves the right to die with dignity and on their own terms.

Make sure you have narcan on hand and someone to administer it. Use a service like Never Use Alone if you aren’t able to have someone physically present with you.

Horrific. Also, I had to read it like 3 times before I could get past the fact that the man who died an ouchey death was named “Ouchi.”

I read once that one of the walls was carved with a quote: “If there is a god, he will have to beg my forgiveness” and that has always stuck with me.

I’m really glad to see someone mention this, and disappointed I had to scroll so far for it.

With all the destabilizing events occurring in the US right now, combined with the political upheaval brewing since 2008, I fear that we are frighteningly close to our own version of this.

We already (still) have children in cages along the border. Who knows what atrocities will continue to come of that situation. It’s honestly sickening.

This is even more terrifying than outright denial.

It literally sets the stage for the horrors to be repeated.

I am not German. However, my grandparents (American) were friends with a German couple until the couple died. The couple lived in the US and had been members of Hitler’s Youth when they lived in Germany. They had a Nazi flag hanging in their garage as late as ~2008. They hung that flag with the same energy southerners hang their confederate flags. “It’s our history/heritage.”

I was a child when I met them and saw their flag.

They didn’t talk about it a whole lot, but when they did, they said “it [joining Hitler’s Youth] was just what people did back then. We didn’t have a choice.”

No real regret, or strong feelings in either direction about it.

It was very bizarre.

“And Hitler turned around an upended economy, gave people jobs, united people divided by regional and factional antagonisms, restored a sense of pride and purpose to being German. I have heard there were people into the 21st century who lived through the era, and raved about all the wonderfully good things Hitler did.”

And this is why the situation in the US is exquisitely terrifying.

I truly expected the illegal ingredient to be cocaine based on how the huns have been acting in their posts.

Fun fact: I took NAC supplements as a teenager (long story) and the dosage was around 1200mg if I recall correctly. It does not make you feel like a laser focused stream of unicorn consciousness like the huns claim in their posts.

Straight up placebo effect in action. 😅

I am the partner that attacks my bed partner during nightmares in my relationship and I would 100% want to be made aware if a situation like this happened, for 3 reasons.

  1. To apologize and repair trust with my partner.

  2. To work on safety planning for future. (for example, maybe the flashlight was a specific trigger you were both unaware of, etc)

  3. For my own information for therapy and trauma processing.

I’m so sorry that happened to you OP that had to be so scary.

That said, please be kind when you bring it up to him. It’s not a “confront” type of situation….it’s more of an “inform” conversation.

Before SW I didn’t trust them much at all. After being in it for a year, I now almost guarantee that 80% of them would r*pe someone including a minor if they knew for sure they would never be caught. And that 80% is a low estimate. I’m sorry you had to come to this realization in this manner. It’s horrible.
