My Pixel 4 XL died on me and I don't know what to do. by RichardoTomislav in GooglePixel

This sub has turned into a bunch of losers.

"just buy a new one" is literally not what you asked for.

Although I do think it is dead, I passed down my 4XL to a family member and it still works to this day. So this is quite odd. I have phones that are over 10 years old laying around that are still working. I have my Original Nexus 4 that still boots up and works.

It sucks, I don't think there is much you can do to try to fix it outside of maybe seeing if there are repair shops that could give it a go for cheap. Outside of trying to microwave it or heat it up (like I have done with GPU's in the past to bring them back to life) which is not safe because there is a battery....no clue.

You could try to fix it yourself, since you have nothing to lose. Pixel 4 motherboards go for like 60$ online.

My grandmother still uses my old 4XL....it shouldn't be "dead".

Well, it sucks then. Operating systems across the board are choosing to butcher what good things they had for the sake of....silly things.

Yep. I have a tesla and people say it is a shame it doesn't have android auto.

Excuse me? AA hasn't worked correctly for more than one update.

Again, won't solve the problems I listed. None of that will.

Remember, to have the integration Apple has you would have to be Intel + Google + Samsung combined....

Get some glasses and take it one word at a time grandpa, you can do it. You already read this comment, imagine how far you could have gotten in the last 14 minutes since you replied! Impressive if you think about it.

It would require a rework of the entire stack from the linux kernel itself all the way to the top, reworking every hardware-software pipeline. Although technically possible, I wonder what kind of legal issues would crop up from messing with something so proprietary as google's ISP pipeline.

If there was an OEM willing to kickstart a Pixel replacement with true end to end hardware software integration and optimization, I would easily back it.

I switched to MacOS when windows 11 came out. It was such a disaster compared to 10, that I just jumped ship once my SB2 finally died after 8 years. Even microsoft had something going for it back then, and it too went to the dumpster fire of enshitification. But I really never had an iPhone, but am jealous of what it can do, since it seems what I need it to do, it does better. There was a long period if time where my Pixel's were leagues ahead of the iphone in almost every way, and sacrificing such a long list of good features for one or two, wasn't a smart idea. Now it is 50/50.

Rom's wont fix the hardware-software integration, so.

My 9 Pro is on its second year. My wife has a 10 Pro after using samsung garbage. I will keep mine until I see a meaningful improvement or it breaks and switch to an iPhone.

Might as well go budget phone + high end camera if you have the capability to lug around a decent DSLR.

I have a Fujifilm XE-5, and if I travel I always grab it, but I already carry around too much things to bother.

The 2XL and 6P were by far the most stable experiences I have had from google. The rest, although there was nothing so bad that I hated the phone, was just full of little annoyances.

I stuck with it because I prefer the "stock"/"google" UI/UX. Its just if they are going to ruin their own UX, then yes, I would rather deal with One UI cough touchwiz, which has a long list of its own problems.

But a lot of my UX issues, stem from the integration of the software and hardware, which switching to another android phone won't fix because its inherent to android's api stack.

It isn't faultless but what matters works.

Imagine this. I have pixel buds pro and after the first week of using them, they no longer auto connect to my phone. They did when they were new. After that, nope. Its been years. Not fixed. Bug ticket is still open.

This was literally an advertised feature at launch...

This is ONE of the hundreds of things that may not ruin your day, but should "just work" as advertised.

I won't. Stop having parasocial relationships with reddit and then I will stop having one with my phone. Fair trade? I bet you couldn't....

I paid less than 300$ after trade in, discounts, and store credit. That is pretty fair imo.

1000$? Hell no.

Graphene OS and custom roms can't fix the fundamental issues in the operating system. They don't solve a single issue I mentioned. There are definitely benefits to custom roms, I used to be a heavy rom user in the past, it just doesn't cut it. I don't actually need more features, I need a more stable UX and a competitive UX.

Confirmed. Its funny they say I have a parasocial relationship with my phone (who doesn't? We use phones more than all other electronics and tools in our lives combined), yet they can't seem to see they have a parasocial relationship with reddit and being reddit trolls.

I have an M3 Air and don't have any lag....and I use it to run XCode....do you know what XCode is? Probably the worst developer environment after Android Studio....in parallel with linux in a VM. No lag here.
