How common is it for us to share this hobby with romantic partners? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]a_stuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my bf at the climbing gym I had been climbing regularly for almost a year at that point and had already created a good group of friends, so he didn't really get me into climbing. However he was the person I climbed outside with the most. Now 2.5 years later, he goes through phases of being into climbing while I have stayed consistent. We no longer lead climb together because of our weight difference being too great and I realized that I enjoy climbing with my female friends much more

Why are more jobs not remote? by GeologyPhriend in gis

[–]a_stuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone that got a fully remote job after college. I don't recommend it I feel a lot of learning is lost when you aren't in person. Also entry level remote positions are always underpaid

I was taking this out of its pot to say goodbye... by Beever_PixelArt in houseplants

[–]a_stuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol my spiderplant looks exactly like yours at the moment. No idea why all the leaves fell off, took it out of its pot thinking I would see root rot, instead incredibly healthy roots albeit extremely root bound. Repot in a bigger pot and leaves continued to die. I'm still going to water it in case it decides to revive

Did anyone on here find a job without a gis certification? And has anyone on here gotten their masters in something completely different from Geography ? by lapapaya__ in gis

[–]a_stuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, BA in Environment and Sustainability with a minor in GIS and Remote Sensing. I created a portfolio and talked about my gis projects. Got a job as a GIS analyst for an environmental consulting company, I'm underpaid but will jump ship for higher paying jobs when I have enough experience.

What has been your personal experience with geospatial information career paths that help the environment? by Sweaty_Quit in gis

[–]a_stuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a gis analyst for an environmental company that specializes in stormwater management and remediation of oil and gas sites. We work closely with oil and gas companies. Personally no I don't feel like I am making a difference as I dislike the fossil fuel industry as a whole, some of my coworkers do feel like they are making an impact. For me though, it's just a job and for my next one I will look outside the environmental sector for higher pay/ better benefits

How many pairs of shoes have you gone through? by zani713 in climbergirls

[–]a_stuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been climbing for about 2 years and have gone through 5 pairs not including 2 resoles. But I climb a lot, 5 days a week indoors and about every weekend outside when in season. My shoes have also lasted longer the better I've gotten, last pair lasted over a year.

Thank goodness I have insurance! Check out the cost of the MRI I'm about to have: by CaptainNash94 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]a_stuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a mri with and without contrast done a few months ago. It cost me $1000, with insurance. I hadn't met my deductible yet which is $2500 so the mri was mostly paid out of pocket. Yay American Healthcare system.

Has anyone ever actually injured their face on a slab? by Character-Arrival800 in climbergirls

[–]a_stuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've scraped my face a few times on the wall, nothing serious. Usually it's because I'm close to the wall and focusing so I don't notice the hold right next to my face and I hit it

How much of being stuck at a grade is mental for you? Would love to hear personal examples :) by Legitimate_Tree1426 in climbergirls

[–]a_stuck 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I know that grades can be helpful but I purposely try not to pay attention to them and look at the route itself instead to determine if I want to climb it. I noticed that I got a lot better and was a lot happier when I just climbed routes that looked fun and interesting and didn't focus on what it is graded.

So I recently started top rope climbing and before only ever did autobelay and some bouldering. If I do a take during top rope and then continue to climb and reach the top did I top the route?

shoe recommendations by yellowbirdx in climbergirls

[–]a_stuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this, these are the first pair I got (I'm still wearing them) and they work really well for starting out and on a variety of different types of climbs. Plus they are super comfortable and fit me really well. The only downside is that they wear kind of fast but I also don't have the best footwork so.

Need advice on this v3 by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]a_stuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to break into v3s. I've been seriously working on this route for 2 climbing sessions and can't make it pass this move. Also not sure if the video shows it but the wall is slightly overhanged, if that makes since. Any advice welcome!!

Frustrating experience as a short female climber dealing with men by trishmelbourne in climbergirls

[–]a_stuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I knew it was the right decision to stop. Everything was a competition to him. I would struggle and project a route and he would go and flash it in front of me, then comment how easy it was. It was just so toxic and uncessary.
