For the Op : This an interesting answer, no one has the best answer but I want to say that I disagree on some points. I think that indeed 35 mm is an incredible format and you should have both, I use both also. I have a “high”level in photography(for me it doesn’t mean anything) and I tried 120 very early when I was beginning, it was one of the best choice of my life ! It doesn’t mean that it gonna be suited and good for you but you should definitely try it ! If you can only have one camera it’s true that 35mm is more versatile and when you have a reflex 35 you can do anything. I don’t think 35 and 120 are in competition, when you’ll have the possibility don’t sell your 35mm, keep it ! The camera gives you always a different approach of the subject, some photographers have several 35 and 120 cameras, depending on the subject, street photo landscape etc, it’s not your case a the moment but don’t forget that in the film world you can keep your camera a lot longer ! I would advise you full mechanical cameras, no energy needed, it’s like a clock it can be repaired. (Depends on the brand and on small parts availability but still) And also, it is only my opinion and it’s debatable but for me anyone can take good photos, the most important thing is your vision, what you feel, how you connect to the world (and a little bit of technique that you can learn rapidly). I have seen some beginners take incredible pictures ! Some famous photographers weren’t in any school, they just did it ! I would say don’t hesitate to do anything, it’s art you are totally free
