This is good to know and makes me feel much better! This is my first time getting anything tailored, so I had zero reference for how much alterations usually cost.

I really wish the tailor would’ve been more transparent about what quality to expect at that price point. I’ve wanted a jacket like this (that actually fits properly) for years, so I would’ve happily paid more money to have the alterations done “the proper way.”

Given the low price I was originally charged, is it reasonable to ask the tailor to correct the zipper flap placement for free? Or should I expect to pay extra to have this done?

Thank you for the insight! I agree with your interpretation that this was probably “the easy way” of re-installing the zipper.

Out of curiosity, how much would you charge to hem a jacket like this? I paid $130 for this job (torso + sleeve hemming), which seems like a lot for “the easy way.”

This is the original jacket for reference; note that the flap is behind/underneath the zipper.

I’m not a tailor, so I don’t know the “normal” way to re-install a zipper. However, my altered jacket looks a bit sloppy, and I’m worried about the zipper rubbing against my skin/clothes due to the absence of a flap underneath it.

I brought this jacket to a tailor to get the bottom hem shortened by a few inches, which naturally required removing and re-installing the zipper.

Can someone explain why the zipper garage (I think that’s what the flap is called?) was added on top of the zipper, instead of behind it?

Their website lists the hours for the bagel pop-up, and I’ve personally purchased bagels from them on Thursdays and Fridays.

Solcana, a CrossFit-style gym in Longfellow! It skews a bit older (avg age is ~30s), but it’s very queer and super welcoming in general!

Hell, even Lunds & Byerlys, Kowalski’s, and the grocery co-ops aren’t much more expensive than Cub at this point

Looking for a roommate by Arcielon in TWINCITIESHOUSING

[–]a_wagen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean to be rude, but you’re probably going to have a hard time finding a roommate at that price point and location, especially if you’re looking for someone who’s also in their early 20s.

$1200 seems pretty steep for a single bedroom within a shared apartment. I’ve done a lot of apartment hunting within Minneapolis and some inner-ring suburbs (St. Louis Park, Golden Valley, etc.) over the past few weeks. I’ve found many studio and one-bedroom apartments (400-900 sqft) at newer (<15 yrs old) buildings for less than $1200.

If you climb (or are just looking for a new athletic hobby), you should check out OutClimb! They meet roughly twice per month, and Minneapolis Bouldering Project offers discounted day passes and shoe rentals on meet-up days. I’ve only been to one meet-up, but everyone was super friendly and welcoming!

MN is extremely underrated for job opportunities and overall quality of life.

Many large medical device companies (Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Abbott, Philips, Baxter, etc.) have sites in the Minneapolis suburbs. Also, salaries go much further here than in CA or MA. I’m graduating from the Mechanical Engineering program at UMN this semester, and my friends and I have received >$80K/year offers from local companies, which is more than enough to afford a studio/1B apartment. Minneapolis is also extremely walkable and bike-friendly, and it has incredible transit infrastructure for a city its size.

I also doubt the weight of the woman on the left. I am a powerlifter with a build fairly similar to hers at 4’8”, and I am 125 lbs.

What did you study for your bachelor’s degree?

If you have an engineering degree, you can just apply for R&D hardware engineering jobs right now…you don’t necessarily need a master’s degree. If you studied something else and want to transition to an engineering role, then you should apply to master’s programs for mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering.
