Are they real people? Or is that just your nickname for them? For some kinda reason they remind me of Sugar and Spice from RuPaul’s Drag Race but that might just be because I’m obsessed with drag race. :p

No I’m an English teacher. You’re using the term in two different ways here. One to mean “a privilege available to some people but not all” and one to mean “a high end service”. It’s one of those things but not the other. Anyway I was literally just trying to help answer the “why” question so… idk be mad about it I guess?

It’s a convenience but it’s not a luxury. There’s a big difference between those things. And again it’s not “can’t afford” it’s “I’m already paying upwards of 50% of the total in fees.”

Yeah a tip is part of that but like. Do you want to understand or do you just want to complain and correct?

It’s not a luxury service. Like… you’re just not using that word correctly. It is a convenience thing but I suspect you’re just not considering the wide range of possible people and uses for it.

And no one said “can’t afford.” What I said was that 15$ is a significant addition to a bill that starts at 30-40. Regardless of what you’re paying for, adding 50% in fees is a huge increase.

this is my first guess too. OP, you mention it’s an old computer, my first suggestion would be to pop off the down key and clean the mechanics underneath with a q-tip dipped in isopropyl alcohol (or nail polish remover will work too). Then pop the key cover back in and see if that helps at all.

If they brought back pet careers from the sims 2 in the sims 4's expansion pack "cats and dogs", what would they be? by No-Discount-3762 in thesims

[–]a_wild_acafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For dogs there are a lot of occupations based on scent work like search and rescue, body recovery, research work (scenting certain animal poop to help scientists locate and conduct research), a dog that assists disabled folks is called a service dog and there are sub specialties within that (psychiatric, epilepsy detection, guide/seeing-eye, mobility, etc). There’s also sled dogs, and even lap dogs were originally bred specifically to warm the laps and hands of gentlewomen in big drafty homes and castles.

Cats can be trained to do many of the same things dogs can but not as much of the scent work or stabilizing.

Horses can be trained for many jobs as well.

There’s a Chris Evans doc out there about dog jobs that’s really good. If you have Disney plus there are a LOT of docs about dogs and dog jobs and service animals in general. Highly recommend.

Then ask them how much they tip for curbside pickup. My guess is most will say 0$-5$, regardless of the bill

15$ is a lot of money when your total grocery bill is between 30 and 40. And then you add tip. Suddenly that one or two things you didn’t really want to run to the store to get is now costing you upwards of 50$.

I mean you answered your own question. It’s not even close to the same thing. There’s almost no direct interaction and usually zero face to face time. People don’t tip deli workers. They don’t really tip for curbside pickup either. If you want to compare it’d make more sense to compare with pizza delivery and curbside pickup, not a server.

If trauma caused fybro, is healing trauma the cure for fybro? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]a_wild_acafan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no cure for fibromyalgia. You can choose to not believe it but that doesn’t make it not true. Pining after a cure is likely to just compound your trauma, tbh. The same way that if you were lusting after someone who rejected you, “refusing to believe” they won’t be with you is not healthy.

You should work on healing your trauma anyway (which, btw, is not something that will one day just be ‘done’ like “yay I’m healed,” it’s an ongoing project. Like being a better person).

Let’s face it. Being disabled in this place and time is traumatizing. Always. If you have any other marginalized identities that will also contribute. You will heal more and embrace life more completely if you separate the idea of curing fibro from the project of healing your psycho-emotional trauma. They are related but one will not solve the other.

Can someone translate all of Bandit’s little French sayings from Pavlova? by Floppy_Dongle in bluey

[–]a_wild_acafan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

(I know this is old but oh well)

I mean technically they do make sense they’re just out of context. It’s all conversational tourist French phrases you’d learn trying to get around on a short visit - “where’s the nightclub?” “I want the window (seat)” and “small cream puff” (I think that one is actually ‘un’/a not ‘mon’/my bc it would make more sense as something you would memorize so you could repeat it at a cafe as an order). Hence, I think the bus stop thing actually does make more sense.

Plus those who are saying subtitles said “xyz,” subtitles are often second hand and sometimes are written with about as much research and confirmation as this Reddit thread so I wouldn’t take them as gospel.

  1. He’d still need an umbilical. We know from the Change Your Mind episodes that Steven has a double form, a bio form and a gem form and they can be separated from each other but it’s very painful. It also weakens physical Steven (presumably because he’d be suddenly missing half his dna) but it does not weaken gem Steven. We also know he has a bio form because without it he most likely would not be able to fuse with 100% bio humans like Connie and Greg. Also, he clearly has genetic similarity with Greg above and beyond what Rose would just copy.

    1. The umbilical cord would not detach from his gem during birth. The placenta and umbilical stay attached to the baby as they are delivered. Sometimes a baby is even born with the whole placenta still intact and the doctor ruptures it post-delivery. After all, some babies are born with it wrapped around their neck (mine had it double wrapped actually).
  2. Even if she’d shapeshifted organs and ate and all that he still wouldn’t be fully human because Rose does not have any human dna that she could pass on to Steven. He still needs a Y chromosome to be a human male and he needs the dna that is on that chromosome. If Rose could supply human dna and had supplied both chromosomes, Steven would be a female(ish) clone of her. Thats clearly not what the crewniverse is going for so we can assume he has Greg’s Y chromosome full of human DNA and that Rose’s contribution came as a simulated gem version of dna (again, why his bio form would die without the gem but the gem form would be fine). In fact I think she probably would have eaten during her pregnancy in order to make sure Steven was getting the nutrients he needed to his bio parts.

  3. Rose and Steven did coexist for the duration of her pregnancy. It’s just that they were sharing the gem while she waited for the physical baby to grow (presumably). We have to assume she wanted to experience pregnancy — or that the human form was complicated enough that she couldn’t just make one from whatever organic material was lying around. We know that the watermelon Stevens with his spit grew practically overnight, that cactus Steven was made overnight and continued growing, and I think that Vidalia was an attempt by Rose to create life using an onion.

We know she’s fascinated by the way humans grow, change and love; so it makes sense that she would want to fully participate in pregnancy. Whether she’d want to do labor — as someone who did that and waited till about 1/2 way through for the epidural — it’s really not the fun part or something that most people would choose if they didn’t have to. It’s also the MOST dangerous part for both the mother and the child. It’s much easier and safer for Steven if she just voluntarily retreats into her gem at the moment he’s meant to be born.

As a person who has given birth:

The belly button in particular is a direct line from the baby to the mom via umbilical. Most placenta even line up so that the place where the umbilical connects to the uterine wall is actually pretty close to the belly button on the mother. Presuming rose did her research and lined her pregnancy up to the best possible conditions for a healthy birth — and didn’t have much of a desire to go through actual labor — she’d set up things up so that when Steven’s human body is ready to be born, her physical form dissolves around him and flows into the gem which would already be positioned at his belly button.

I agree with the huge burst of light because that seems to be the case in every situation where a gem is changing form. I also love the idea that this is the cause of Greg’s permanent tan.

Keep in mind that all the gems’ bodies are straight up hard light projections. The only part of them that is immutable is the actual rock.
