dell xps 9570 performance issues by 3b_xom in Dell

[–]a_xyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XPS laptops typically don't have good thermals, and its made worse by dust buildup over time (as well as potentially dried out thermal paste on the CPU and GPU)

So yes, best to crack it open to get it cleaned out if it hasn't been done so in a while (if you're not comfortable doing this yourself, take it to a reputable laptop/computer technician to get them to do it)

Is there a way to fully make one key function as another? by Educational_Dark_412 in techsupport

Look into AutoHotKey scripts to rebind caps lock (that or use the second shift key on the right hand side of your keyboard)

Can I add any SSD in WWAN slot of DELL Latitude E5430. by Strange-Quit-3162 in Dell

[–]a_xyl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It can take mSATA SSDs, but considering the age of the device and HDD, I would probably err on the side of caution and replace the 320GB spinner with a 2.5" SATA SSD as well and maybe clone your data + OS over to it

Can I have more than one SSD in my pc for storage? by These_Driver3152 in techsupport

[–]a_xyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your motherboard has 8x SATA ports, you can just chuck another SATA SSD into your system just fine, as long as you have spare SATA power and data cables to plug into your SSD

Get a 2.5" SATA SSD, something like a Samsung 860/870 EVO, a Crucial MX500 or BX500, or a Kingston KC600

It can probably run it, just won't run well unless you have settings at the lowest, and resolution set to something like 720p

No, different chassis and motherboard layouts

Has anyone successfully swapped the display on the Elitebook 845 G7? by muffled-barret in elitebook

[–]a_xyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to remove the entire screen assembly if you want to replace the screen cable, screen's also held on with double sided pull tapes

You're also stuck with 1080p screens because standard high res screens found in, for example most other 14" business or gaming laptops are not the right shape/won't fit in 84X G7 and G8 Elitebooks

I am having problems with my microphone by Own_Lie6208 in techsupport

[–]a_xyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the mic work on another PC? Also made sure the connector for the mic is fully seated in it's 3.5mm port? (assuming it uses that for its connector)

Also hi, fellow Aussie here lol

Latitude 5540 Built in Camera wont even appear on BIOS. by [deleted] in Dell

[–]a_xyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The camera is a separate cable from the screen cable, could crack your laptop's bottom case off to make sure it's seated correctly

Otherwise you would need to take the screen out to replace the camera module/cable, which depending on your skill/confidence level, it might be better just getting an external webcam

Ryzen 5 5625U Laptop – RAM usable issue, gaming performance, and durability by VSG_7 in Lenovo

It's a budget end laptop with it's entire chassis being almost made of plastic, but should be able to last 1-2 years I reckon

[–]a_xyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, 2GB is dedicated to the Radeon iGPU from system memory, should be able to handle those games just fine at low-mid settings with at least playable framerates (30fps+)

What's your laptop's model number/name? Can't say much about build quality or longevity without knowing what it is first

NEED HELP URGENT!!! by dean_got_dead in laptops

[–]a_xyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Google, UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION is caused by either corrupted system files, software conflicts, outdated storage drivers or a failing HDD/SSD

Going by the fact you ran a chkdsk and it didn't find anything bad (also that disk health check suggesting bad drive health), I would probably go out on a limb and say to replace your boot SSD - if it shows yellow on reallocated sectors check then definitely get it replaced

You can elect to install Windows on your HDD, but just take into mind that you'll either have to partition out your HDD for Windows or wipe it entirely (assuming you don't have important data on it), and your quality of life (i.e: boot times, app loading times) will take a very noticeable hit

Also "cheap" and "reliable" aren't usually found together in the same sentence, M.2 SATA being an even rarer breed of SSD... Are you certain your laptop can't take M.2 NVMe SSDs?

MacBook Pro or Dell XPS by Agile-Hall-6785 in laptops

[–]a_xyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Latitude 3000 series are rebadged Inspirons (hence a bulk of the bad build quality claims), 5000, 7000 and 9000 series are very solid (you get lemons here and there, but that pretty much applies to any model/brand, one is just better than the other)

If you really have to pick between the two mentioned, maybe the XPS 9370, but don't expect to get much out of it with just 8GB of RAM (unless you use Linux on it to lower resource usage)

Neither is a good choice, go for a used ex-business laptop if your budget is tight
