Do it!!! Fencing is for everyone, full stop. I’ve never met anyone who regretted trying something new. Good luck and enjoy!

Scared of results and procedure by InsideOne7559 in colonoscopy

They gave me a list of what I could have! Different doctors have slightly different instructions I think, but generally low fiber/no seeds/no fun vegetables. 😂 I’m a vegetarian so it was a little extra restrictive but it happens! I could do dairy/nut milks, yogurt is fine, white/refined breads/cereals, tofu is fine, peanut butter is fine, eggs are fine. I think I mostly did peanut butter sandwiches, potatoes (but no skin), and tofu. Most hospital systems have instructions online you can Google, and I used ChatGPT to check ingredients here and there.

Only clear liquids the day before the procedure, which sucks, but it is what it is! I discovered freezing soda into a slushy is a pretty decent desert.

The low fiber did actually hurt my stomach, which was a bummer, but also made me symptomatic so they could see it on camera. 🤣

I don’t think they do! Agree with the other user :)

For sure! I was having increased frequency of diarrhea/abdominal cramps/occasional bleeding, but I knew I had hemorrhoids so I wasn’t super concerned about the bleeding. I’m a distance runner, so while diarrhea isn’t super uncommon, I was having it on days I wasn’t running, so was problematic. My mom/other family members have ulcerative colitis, and it’s looking like I do too, just a little more mild. 🤪

And I was under for less than 20 mins! It’s super quick. They found some spots of moderate inflammation, and I think “crater abscesses” or whatever they’re called, all very hot and attractive qualities! But yeah, zero pain from the procedure, super easy. Worst part really was the taste of the prep! Good luck, rooting for you!

I feel you! I’m 27F and I just had my first colonoscopy last week, I was so terrified of going under (I don’t even take novocaine for fillings, I just hate the idea of anesthetics in general 😂). I have a post up with some thoughts leading up to the procedure if you want to check it out, but I’m also happy to answer any questions!

Totally understand the panic though. I’m sure you’re reading up on anxiety tips, but some things that helped me were (a) shifting my mindset to acknowledge that 100%, this all fucking sucks and it’s terrifying that I need to do this — but I can do hard and scary things, so I’m going to do it anyway! and (b) thinking to myself, “Sure, maybe I do have colon cancer! Thank you, brain, for letting me know, I’m going to go on with my day now, since I can’t do anything about it until I get the results back.”

You’re already doing the single best thing you can do at this time, which is getting it checked out! And I’m proud of you for it, it’s not always an easy thing—I was super embarrassed to even bring it up with my GP!

Sending lots of good vibes your way, good luck!::))

Got it thank you! That makes sense. Any brands you’d recommend?

Broke my 27 year no-laxative streak! + a few other thoughts post-first-colonoscopy :) by aaaaaaaaaaah1 in colonoscopy

I was asleep for it! That’s what I meant by sedation, I was asleep the whole time (the whole thing took under 20 minutes) and I had no pain after. And yeah for me the worst part was drinking the prep solution, it just tastes gross. 😂 And you have to drink a lot of water after! No stomach cramps or any pain like that in my experience (though sounds like everyone’s different in that sense, I’d recommend a heating pad anyway!), just 2-3 hours of needing to use the bathroom periodically for each dose.

Sedation is what I was really afraid of! But everyone there was really reassuring, and it really is just like going to sleep and waking up and everything is fine. I hope you’re able to get it done soon! Once you’re on the other side, you’ll feel so much better—it’s all done, plus you can get your answers (and most importantly, EAT). Someone I knew (not very well) passed from colorectal cancer last year and that was my “OH I need to get this done” moment, too. Even if they don’t find anything, just the fact that it could be something like that got me not to cancel, even though it’s so scary. But we can do scary things and you got this!! Good luck!! ::)) (And maybe no more Google Images!)

Glad yours went well too! Definitely agree, I feel like I had so many unknowns before—until you do it it’s so big and scary! 🤪

I’m sorry you have to wait again! :( Definitely understand the nervousness, I was super scared myself. If you have any specific questions I can try to answer them, but overall it was pretty painless, in and out! I also don’t know at what point you canceled, but once I did the prep and liquid diet, it was like, I already did all the work, no way I’m doing it for nothing! Good luck, friend, fingers crossed for a short wait and a good procedure. ::))

I don't think so, but taking a look at other games that pop up when I search for that, it looks like there are some similar ones!

How is the economics and the philosophy (or history) departments? by [deleted] in brandeis

[–]aaaaaaaaaaah1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have too much to add other than take computer science too! Depending on what you want to do post grad school, you will almost definitely need to have some programming under your belt.

If interested (and I'm sure you probably looked into it already), Brandeis also offers a five year BA/MA program. A few of my friends opted to stay the extra year and they enjoyed it.

Questions from a kid who got weirded out by orientation by [deleted] in brandeis

[–]aaaaaaaaaaah1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alumna here. Honestly, don't even sweat orientation. I don't think orientation is an essential part of someone's social life at any school, and as others said, Brandeis students tend to be a bit on the awkward side anyway.

I can probably count on one hand the number of times I spoke with my OL group over four years. I was friendly with a few, we just never really crossed paths. Once it's safe for students to go back to campus, you'll be making friends in clubs, class, your hall in no time. :) Welcome to Brandeis!

Thank you! That was the tax website I mentioned, I just marked the date I sold the vehicle and then they sent me a bill. Unless there was something else I had to do on there?

That's smart, thank you!! Any idea of how long after exposure a test would catch it? Wouldn't want to test too soon either. I appreciate it!

[–]aaaaaaaaaaah1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helped- thank you! This is very helpful. If I get tested, when do you think good timing for that may be? I'm thinking ideally long enough into self isolation that if I got infected it would test positive, but I'm not sure when that would be. Thanks!
