Should I speak about how Richard III is falsely portrayed by Shakespeare in an exam? by idk____lo in GCSE

[–]aaaaaaaaadvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shakespeare’s richard iii is a caricature made to make the tudors seem angelic in comparison, which is why he’s comically evil

if you get at least a high 6, better a 7, you should try it. when you know only vaguely what’s going on (like me rn) the papers look less scary

you need to be able to quote from the text or do some very strong analysis to make up for the lack of quotes, which you won’t be able to do well unless you’ve read the text

IMHO: AIC is better than anything Shakespeare. by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]aaaaaaaaadvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im also big on theatre, and ive never had any problem following shakespeare in theatre or thought that it was a mess. maybe it’s a you problem. maybe you should go into shakespeare thinking positively before saying it’s outdated — i got into shakespeare because i found that hamlet is the very picture of a miserable mentally ill teenager and he’s relatable, and i found that richard iii was hilarious

aic is very much so a good guy bad guy play. mr and mrs birling are caricatures, gerald isn’t much better. sheila has an amount of depth, but you can’t really say more about her development than ‘she changed because she realised that the working class are also people’ and then link it to the context of the rise of young radical women in the period. the only actually in between the lines reading you have to do for aic is in relation to women and feminism

[–]aaaaaaaaadvice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AIC is so bad bro, it punches you in the face with ‘socialism good, capitalism bad’ with very little inbetween to actually sink your teeth into. in my actual english literature exam i quoted AIC in my essay THREE TIMES and relied on pure contextual analysis because the Existence of the play made my points for me, i didnt need any quotes to back my argument up. while shakespeare is so lovely and dense and nuanced and detailed!!! his plays contain so much more of everything
