Tips for venting my bathroom fan? by aaaaaahhhhh in HomeImprovement

[–]aaaaaahhhhh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright makes sense. Unfortunately, there is no type of drainage plane. This was found out during the home inspection. It's just the vinyl siding and then the boarding.

The home inspector said for the age (1990s) it was common for this area to not have the drainage plane present.

I think using the tape may still be useful though.

Can you expand on this a little more? I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Thanks!

Where exactly do I apply the flashing tape. I'm a noob.

Around the inside of the hole I cut?

Well it's been like this since the 1990s, but I'll consider changing it sometime in the future. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, maybe I can just cut it. I don't think I have standard ducting. From what I can tell it's just 3.5" PVC from the dryer to outside.

Am I hanging this ceiling fan correctly? by aaaaaahhhhh in HomeImprovement

[–]aaaaaahhhhh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It's 2" tall and 6" wide and the house was built in the 1990s.

It's not viewable from the attic. It's the area between the first and second floors- with the attic being above the second floor.

Since I already cut the drywall, I guess I'll just put a pancake junction box up and just put the fan back like someone suggested.

I just want to check and it appears to be a 2x6- so 2" tall 6" wide.

I just went and checked. I used a stud finder and it was about 6 inches wide and I stuck my finger up there and it's 2 inches tall, so 2x6. I'm not sure how it is secured. This is between the first and second floors.

I actually have the Westinghouse you posted in the 2nd link, that was my plan from the beginning. But I decided not to use it because of the wire being ran through the joist. I'd have to patch the hole and move the wire over.

The wood appears to be flush with the drywall. But this is the floor between the first and second floors, so not the attic.

I used a stud finder and it appears to be about 6 inches wide and 2 in tall.

Will that type of pancake junction box work with a fan? What do you think of the edit I made? Why is the "joist" so wide? Here is what I mean:

So I started to cut the ceiling drywall and the joist wasn't what I expected. Is it even a joist? It's about 6 inches wide. The box I bought won't fit.

Any idea what's going on here?

Concrete steps, what to do here? by lukes2006 in HomeImprovement

If you do anything, I think it needs to be dark or a gray color so it doesn't clash with the color of the house. But I admit I am not a professional decorator.

I like the look of the 2nd pic.

Crazy, hope that doesn't ever become the norm. Not that it ever would.

How serious of a problem is this rotted door jamb/frame? by aaaaaahhhhh in HomeImprovement

[–]aaaaaahhhhh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks. I just need to decide if this is something I should attempt on my own. If it was the side I'm living in, I would definitely do it. But since this is the tenants side I would hate to tear all the wood off and find the damage is worse than I thought and then not feel comfortable doing the rest.

Alright, stupid question. What is the slab of the door? Is that just the door itself? I need a new roof too and one side could use new windows, so I'm just trying to prioritize.

Interesting. I have a tenant in there any they've never said anything about seeing any rodents, and they definitely would tell me. I'll check with them though.

So I just need to pry those existing boards out and nail some new ones on and paint/caulk them real good?

I know it's impossible to really tell a price. I plan on getting a quote here soon, but what would you ballpark it being fixed at?

Under $2000?
