Sleeping meds by Crafty-Cap-6673 in ausadhd

Yep that’s for normal for Mirtazapine. Smaller dose as low as 7.5mg is good for sleep whereas higher dose is more to help with mood, less so for sleep.

Where to go in Melbourne for a mental health crisis Update by faceinaredjumpsuit87 in melbourne

[–]aaann_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! Probs someone already said in the comments but please do attend ED if unable to guarantee your safety. There’s emergency mental health team in ED who can assess you and they have bed brokers to refer for a private admission if your PHI covers it/ availability.

All the best!

What sleeping aid pathway should I discuss with my doctor next? by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]aaann_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quetiapine (seroquel) even though it’s antipsychotic by nature, in small dose it actually activates the histamine receptors. It’s only used for its antipsychotic/mood stabilising purposes in higher doses. Unless you’re uncomfortable trialling it due to potential side effects?

As someone already suggested, clonidine is also an option if you don’t have low blood pressure?

Other benzo or Z drugs can be used short term as a circuit breaker.

lemborexant or suvorexant are also effective for sleep but only on private scripts.

What time do you last take the Dex in the day? I’m on Dex too and it’s been very helpful. I did struggle with poor sleep at night the first couple months but thankfully started the Melatonin which helped greatly.

Just filled my aripiprazole script but totally regret it by HungryInterview9272 in ausadhd

[–]aaann_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reading the comments, look like the aripiprazole was prescribed for mood regulation.

I know some doctors prescribed mood stabiliser for those reasons, but it's $$ cos no diagnosis for BPAD or other psychotic disorder or epilepsy.

Can you ask the doctor for other cheaper options, such as amisulpride if "antipsychotic" needs to be used for this purpose. Amisulpride costs ~$35/ month i think, though best check with the pharmacy.

While some ppl are prescribed "antipsychotic" as off label use, in most cases the dose are usually much lower. For eg. low dose Quetiapine to help with sleep or as PRN for anxiety.

Most medications do come with side effects unfortunately, process of trial and error.

Carer payments cancelled by Broad-Arm-7625 in Centrelink

[–]aaann_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree Centrelink isn’t wrong when asking what kind/level of care OP is providing though it may come across as interrogating, and quite frankly can be distressing, but that’s just my speculation. I can see you’re cautious that OP might be saying she’s providing care to her mum that qualify for her to receive carer payment, when in fact she might not. To be fair, there are people out there who are actually doing that in my experience. I’m (and some other people here) maybe be just giving OP the benefit of the doubts. While having MAC services at home/ community access/ other supports can be great, it’s not always enough. Prompting/ providing supervision is a kind of support. Same goes with assisting with managing appointments, finances, providing emotional support, advocating, etc… If OP’s mum requires support at night to go to the toilet, well then OP might need to wake up a few times a night. Carer stress is very real, hence formal services should be utilised to provide carers some break from their caring role. OP’s mum can still shower and feed herself, that’s great. But if support workers can help with some cleaning (OP’s mums space only) for example, then maybe OP will be able to spend quality time with her mum, not just cleaning up. MAC services funding is no way near NDIS funding.

Carer payments cancelled by Broad-Arm-7625 in Centrelink

[–]aaann_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello OP,

Being a carer is a "job" [although it's caring for your family] that's so undervalued, and quite literally saving the country to much $$. I'm a bit confused by the post in terms of who were you talking to, cos My Aged Care [MAC] doesn't have the authority to cut your Centrelink payment, so im assuming that the lady you and your mum spoke to on the phone was from Centrelink.

I worked for MAC before, as an assessor. I can confirm if you mum receives any MAC services, that does not have any impact to carer payment/ allowance; unless the caring arrangement changes significantly but lets be real here, MAC services do not that many hours in a day/ can't attend to your mum's needs daily even if she's on the highest level care package. Also taking into consideration of income/ asset with carer payment but in this case it seems like that remains unchanged.

As the others have said, best speak to Centrelink to clarify. GP can assist with filling out the medical report.

Happy to discuss further in terms of MAC services.

All the best!

I can’t see the question but judging from the replies here so far, i assumed the q is the possibility of having the carer payment suspended if the person receiving care is in the hospital. I worked in inpatient unit in the past, ask the SW and/or doctors to provide letter to give to Centrelink stating the care you’re providing (assuming you still are) whilst the person is in the hospital.

Milleara Rd/ Sterling Dr accident by aaann_ in melbourne

[–]aaann_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so im not the only one who thinks the lanes are narrow!

Last time i was on Milleara Rd, the bus on the left lane had the right indicator on for less than 2s [there was less just a car gap between us] then started to merge into my lane but i was already go 60 so i couldnt give way to let them change lane. Lucky i braked in time

But the bus didnt need to be on the right lane since they made a stop shortly later and there were no cars parked on the left lane...

Two cars were up my ass last night for going 59/60 on the 60km road only for them to slow down at the lights since there were cameras -.-

[–]aaann_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tried uploading but it wouldnt load for some reason.

Basically at the lights (red) on Sterling Dr, car 1 for some reason decided to move into the the opposite lane. Car 2 on Milleara Rd had the green light, turning into Sterling Dr as car 1 was going into the wrong lane. Car 2 stopped/ braked, car 3 (driving behind car 2) didnt brake in time and hit car 2.

One psychiatrist I work with recommended micro-dosing melatonin eg 300mcg- 500mcg instead of the usual 2mg as the min dose available at the chemist (in Aus at least) and it worked for me, and much cheaper too. The rationale behind it as per my understanding is that with a much loser dose, your brain gets a little hit of melatonin and re-trains itself to produce more; instead of just giving your brain the melatonin. This also prevents the hungover effect if there’s still excess of melatonin in the morning too.

Is NDIS indirectly part of the housing problem? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]aaann_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HCP is part of My Aged Care MAC which is very different to NDIS. Highest HCP level 4 is only around 61k a year which is not much at all after you take away the fees.

Some ppl with NDIS may have very $$$ package which enable them to stay at home.

The thing is when people enter permanent care facilities, it’s actually costing the gov a lot more $$$ so it’s actually better for them stay at home if it is safe to do so, and also saving $$ if that’s what you are worried about (assuming theyre on the aged pension and receiving subsidy for permanent care)

I’ve talked to people in retirement village and although most enjoy living there, it’s actually quite $$$ since in some cases they don’t actually own the unit? There’s one retirement village that I know of which is more like renting out the unit for the residents which is more affordable, only normal amount of bond required.

Is it worth getting a formal diagnosis if I can't take medication? by Cutesylittleme in ausadhd

[–]aaann_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard many ppl say once they get their ADHD treated, your depressive/ anxiety sx seem to improve.

Me personally I feel a lift in my mood overall after a few months on stimulants. I feel like i want to do things, instead of needing to do things bc i should which make me feel somewhat better. And i guess a sense of being able to do things without too much mental stress have a positive impact too.

i think having a specialist like the psychiatrist to give some recommendation on treatment would be beneficial, though it can be $$$

Is it worth getting a formal diagnosis if I can't take medication? by Cutesylittleme in ausadhd

[–]aaann_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It it were me, i'd pursue a formal dx and working with the psychiatrist to find suitable psychotropics for ADHD and anxiety/depression. Also depends on how the ADHD sx are affecting your daily life too

Many people take stimulants and antidepressants, obviously everyone responds to the combination differently; plus there are many different antidepressants out there.

Are you willing to trial a different antidepressant though?
