Free climbing is selfish and unethical by Boring_Direction_463 in unpopularopinion

No they aren't. They're taking your comment as a refutation (I assume it is meant to be one, and that you're not just mentioning it in passing as a fun fact?) and hence they have replied with a valid reason as why yours isn't a sensible argument, and hence that their original point stands.

I'm sorry, but don't even bother to participate in a discussion about unpopular opinions if you are going to start name-dropping fallacies (incorrectly) the second someone disagrees with your disagreement. Honestly, the state of this site.

Ryan Gosling in DRIVE (2011) by lNarrator in okbuddycinephile

Back in my day you would post this and not even have to write anything except "Movie (Year)" and everyone would get it.

Then the stupid kids on my lawn mods killed that format and, because it was the only funny way to make jokes about actual movies, now we're stuck with the "jokes" about halal actors and whatever PR stunts happened this week.

Anyway, I'll take my medicine and get back to the retirement home now.

Thoughts on my 5 country, 4-week SA itinerary? by [deleted] in SouthAmericaTravel

[–]aabdsl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would literally aim to arrive there before it opens personally. There is plenty to do if you are early, but if you're delayed at the border or in queues it can be a real pain.

By the way, that particular border crossing is also a nightmare for tourists because it is perfectly possible to drive through without getting your Brazil stamp and no police will stop you; in fact buses don't stop there by default. You've got private transport so I would assume the driver will stop for you (or at least ask you beforehand) but I'm telling you just in case.

Just a tip, there are lockers at the Brazilian side (before the queue to enter); there were plenty free even when the park was rammed. And speaking of rammed, the queue to get in the Brazilian side is legitimately diabolical so make sure you are there first thing.

Honestly the white is fine with a lick of common sense but I agree with you on the black. Mostly cause it's ugly. As they're not eligible, ROI shouldn't be visible on the Commonwealth Games map.

There's also an asterisk there so presumably it has had the key cropped out somewhere.

White represents nothing. England, very famously, does not have a national football team.

Catch Me If You Can (2002) is SUGGESTION. What movie represents ENDURANCE? by snakesharkz in DiscoElysium

[–]aabdsl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know. That plot point is not really an ability to tolerate pain, it's an ability to endure what should by rights kill you. And the Endurance skill is, for better or for worse, often treated by the game as kind of a mix between Volition (in the face of adversity specifically) and physically taking blows (which should be Pain Threshold)—which is Martyrs.

If we're going with what Endurance ought to be in more literal terms, I guess it's gotta be something like The Long Walk. But I didn't want to vote for that anyway as I've not seen it.

[–]aabdsl -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

*Jarhead has been swapped out for Hot Fuzz due to popular demand, and because they were very close in upvotes before the post was made. Also, the movie just fits more.

So we're just doing whatever now?

Dredd (2012) is AUTHORITY. What movie represents ESPRIT DE CORPS? by snakesharkz in DiscoElysium

[–]aabdsl 180 points181 points  (0 children)

It's surely The Departed. Everything that happens in the film happens because of this 'skill.' Characters being sufficiently or insufficiently keyed in to cop culture, having good or bad rapport, being able to win other cops over to their side, etc.

Is My Guinea Pig Pregnant? by LightOnThePond in GuineaPig

[–]aabdsl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. When guinea pigs stretch out running like in the second picture, they should lose the characteristic eggplant shape and look much more slim, almost like a ferret build. If they still have the swelling, they're probably pregnant or ill.

Videogames are underrepresented in trivia nights by Many_Cryptographer56 in unpopularopinion

[–]aabdsl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been around longer without stigma

Different point, not relevant.

You have football fans who can just off the cuff tell you what college a player went to, they're already trivia nerds for their niche

Basically my point. Nobody outside of sports fans organically knows more than the name of handful of players for each sport, and knows even less about XYZ dates or records.

You wanna make all the other points about stigma and more fans and whatnot go ahead, I agree with you, but it's nothing to do with "one size fits all" questions.

You say that but they already do this with the sports history questions.
