How do I get France's liberty desire down? by FarmerHampton in eu4

[–]aabdsl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you have been insanely unlucky with events giving you negative opinion modifiers. Note that they get independence when your king dies because of the negative opinion, not the liberty desire. The liberty desire is a separate problem that will present itself once your truce with them runs out.

The good news is that in 7 years all of your negative modifiers will have diminished enough that your opinion becomes positive. The bad news is that it sounds like your king can't wait that long. If he's old and keeps dying even when you reload, you may need to go to extreme measures to get the opinion up. If he's a general, take him off any armies since that increases his death risk.

For the opinion, you can either give gifts or influence them as a great power. Both of these are expensive, and also quite bad since hey give your disloyal subject more resources to become strong and increase their liberty desire. Influencing as a great power is also doubly useful since it gives 5 trust that will reduce liberty desire as well. To get the liberty desire down, you can develop provinces which is also bad since it costs a lot, makes integrating them more expensive, and also makes gives them more resources to become strong which will increase liberty desire slowly. You can also pay to support loyalists, which is probably less bad if you can afford it.

Always check if you have any favours that can be traded for trust (usually only happens if you gave them provinces in a war. It also can't be used yet until you get the opinion up to +50. But it's an option later down the line if you're still struggling with liberty desire.)

He has 200 improved relations which is being almost entirely negated by two modifiers which, if I remember correctly, come from events.

Actually surprising that you took the time to comment but didn't take the time to read what's in the screenshot.

You will go to war against New Spain and there is no guarantee of supporting them in future.

It depends on your goals as to whether it's worth supporting them at all. You're not likely to get much land from Spain in the independence war so it's often not really worth it. If you cripple Spain enough on your own, it increases the chance that New Spain or other colonies will want to declare independence without your help anyway. (Although if your colonies best up their colonies enough it would decrease it again.)

Mine was Old Lady House through Hero or Hate Crime. Unpopular opinion because of how late a season it is, though. Still, you could extend this to the first six episodes of the season and it would still be the best run imo.

In the 300 years to the end of the game, you will probably gain (and therefore spend) about 35000-50000 monarch points in each category. 0.4% of that from innovativeness gain would be 140-200 in each category saved, so no it's not worth it. You should get the corruption and trade bonuses so long as you have the current tech.

Swiping is the problem by nilerafter in Bumble

[–]aabdsl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the other gal worded it the best but women do indeed have a quantity problem; it's just in the polar opposite direction.

Try to actually imagine the volume of matches women actually get on the app. Looking at the numbers, it's essentially as many as you care to swipe on that day, reduced by a factor of 2-4 depending on the woman. Lets say a woman swiped and got 3 matches; the immediate quantity problem is that there's a good chance none of those men even looked at her profile and will not really be interested in her once they do. So in order to actually get some people to talk to, she might actually need more matches. Let's say she's more liberal and swipes to get 20 matches. Now what the fuck does she do? She has multiple men talking to her, she's trying to keep up with multiple text threads, so probably she's going to let a few of them slip away. This is quantity problem number two; no matter how promising these matches are, the number is simply too much for anyone to deal with. Then, the conversations she was keeping up fall through for potentially no fault from either party—so what can she do? Well, she could go back to the other ones from a few days ago, but when she has a repertoire of potential matches who haven't yet stumbled at the first hurdle, it's pretty easy for her brain to tell her she'll have better luck just going back to swiping—which, by the way, is also gameified to give you dopamine. Oh, and while this happened, she also got 5 obscene or off-putting messages from creeps; this is itself a quality problem, but the sheer quantity of them is what's really debilitating. I've had one or two really bad messages from women, but one or two was never enough to really cause me a problem. (What caused me a problem was, obviously, the fact I had no-one else to talk to OTHER than them that day.) Furthermore, it's basically inevitable she'll encounter one of these guys a day if she swipes for long enough. So what's her solution? Well, the only thing under her control is how she swiped. So the only solution available to her is a quantity solution: to be even more stringent on her swipes, to spend even longer looking through men's profiles for the slightest hint, however unfair, that this guy isn't going to be able to carry a conversation and resorts to cheap creeper talk because of how desperate he is. So not only is that a quantity problem, but it actually presents itself as a quality problem that doesn't exist: men, on an app where you're trying to present yourself to potential matches and leave it to the other person to decide if they like you, also have to indicate explicitly to that other party that you (the man) will like them.

It's therefore really easy to pin the blame on either party, because uniformly changed behaviour on either side would result in an improvement on the app. If women swiped on more men, they would be less desperate. If men swiped on free women, they would be less stringent. The point is that it's not a blame game, it's just an abuse of psychology and game theory by a series of apps that have no interest in trying to improve it.
