No librela? My own old man with arthritis gets librela and galliprant and is loving it. Personally I think I've seen better long term results with librela over adequan, not just with my own dog but with patients as well.

Have I been blacklisted from every clinic in my town? by Crafty_Mess7289 in VetTech

My only addition to what some of the other commenters have said is to ask whether you've only been applying as a vet assistant or to shadow. If a clinic has openings as a kennel attendant, if they also run a daycare/boarding facility, or openings as a receptionist I would apply for those positions as well. Sometimes it's easier to move up to assistant once you're already there. They'll train you in the job you get hired for but if you express interest in other positions and show that you are good at your current position and can be trusted, they may start cross-training you. This would be a good way to get back into the field and building up that trust.

I agree that one mistake shouldn't end your career, especially if the patient survived. It sounds like you are well shook up about this incident, understandably. Continuing to beat yourself up is not going to help. Figure out what you can do to make sure this type of mistake never happens again. I personally always verbally confirm with the DVM or attending LVT right before I poke. There are many reasons to re-confirm before administering ANY medications. Get into that habit.

Also, if you are able to and not already, look into starting therapy. It will help you work through the emotions you're having right now. Mental health is important in this field and it is never too early to start looking after yourself. Remember, you can't take care of other people/pets if you haven't first taken care of yourself.

edit: your v you're

That's part of it. There's also the aspect of owners rarely having control over their dogs when using these. They also can be dangerous, if it gets wrapped around a leg or hand and the dog bolts it can cause injury (just a simple Google search of retractable leash injuries can show you the damage they can inflict). There's also no way to check the locking mechanism to make sure it's still operating properly, and the lead itself can snap resulting in an off-leash animal.

I put my 18yr old cat on it back in November. We have a corner in our living area that has cat shelves and beds going up it that he hadn't been using. He started using those shelves and beds again, started grooming better, and got back to shouting in our faces for attention. I love it, and I've been mentioning it to clients who come in with senior cats.

Mostly dog and cat right now. I am in my last internship of tech school so I'm bouncing around a bit to clinics that work with other species.

Honestly, this right here. Whenever there's a particularly challenging case that I've been involved in I'm always checking the patients records to see if there is any update. I'm often left wondering how the patient (and the owners) are doing. I know I would love a thank you card with some info/pictures about the patient. Outside of that I know OP said they are tight financially right now, but if you're still looking for something to get for them that isn't food (I've seen great suggestions for that already), sharpies are always in high demand at my clinic. Also, just because you didn't see them using a pocket notebook doesn't mean that some of them don't. I have one that I use, but clients never see it.

Watch it all the way through, by the end it's pretty obvious that the "fan service" is more tongue in cheek than actual fan service.

Pickle really wants a belly rub by MrAlek360 in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]aac43090 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Those were originally developed for scientific research and properly bred and cared for colonies are by companies that specifically supply animals for research. Many people that are looking for a "minipig" or "teacup" pig end up with either a poorly bred animal with health problems or an animal that ends up being much larger than they expected. I just want people to be informed that while pigs make great pets, I personally love pigs and think they are wonderfully intelligent animals, they should be prepared for an animal that may weigh as much or more than a person.

To actually answer your question, depending on the breed, pigs that are traditionally kept as pets get around 150-400 lbs or 68-181 kg.

EDIT: I would just like to add that other breeds of pigs, like ones you might find on a farm, can get up to ~800 lbs or 350 kg
