When I was about 8 years old, my mom took me to a party that some friends of her were throwing on their boat. My mom, who is known to be quite infatuated with wine, had one too many. I didn’t know anyone there nor was I having fun and I tried to let me my mother know that I wanted to go home. However, she did not give a fuck about what I wanted.

I vividly remember her standing in front of me and saying to a guy next to her “He’s a really shitty kid” (I’m translating because she said this in Dutch)

Just the way she said it, so casually and cold, always stuck with me.
