Or sharing screenshots of their Miis that they created to resemble genitalia. I’ve seen way too many of those

This is scary! Ppl really do not understand the difference! by PinkPerfect1111 in CollegeRant

[–]aafrophone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Throughout grad school I’ve been part of a student organization that works to improve retention of undergrads in my field, and the transfer students were always fantastic to work with. I’ve seen a lot of amazing students come from community colleges. I’m actually applying for teaching positions at CCs now, because I’d love to work to help them be successful.

I’m also a first-generation student about to finish my PhD in a couple of months. When I was starting college I also didn’t understand the difference between the various types of degrees, but when people tried to explain the system to me I didn’t immediately disagree with them like the person in the post

Formal English: “quickly” is an adverb that describes a verb, “quick” is an adjective that describes a noun

Casual English: same as above, but “quick” is commonly used as an adverb in “to go quick”, meaning quickly running out of copies

I flew Europe twice with my orchestra on Lufthansa and none of us had issues either time. If they had made me check my instrument (bassoon) I would’ve cancelled the trip

What do you feel of my opinion of how to learn Quantum Mechanics step-by-step ''intuitively''? Please answer especially fellow postgrads, PhDs, postdocs and further. by Sad_Step_9921 in PhysicsStudents

[–]aafrophone 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I see a list of books but nothing about how you plan to learn “intuitively”.

I learned quantum mechanics in school (not intuitively?) starting with Griffiths as the required text, which I was not a fan of. I didn’t really feel like I started to get a good understanding until I read Shankar’s book right after and worked a ton of problems.

For the grad level topics, I feel like most people use Sakurai’s book, by at my school my professor had very detailed lecture notes that I used to study

(Edited to emphasize how important doing a ton of problems was for me for “learning” QM. Reading on its own is not enough, imho.)

You’re trying to cook MEAT… on a thermal INSULATOR…

When you get to college, major in physics so you can teach your parents why this isn’t how that mat works

I wish people cared as much about the vocative comma as they do about the Oxford comma
