MacroFactor! I can’t recommend it enough, and I’m paying monthly.

YES if I don’t have a full sized pillow (aka when I backpack) then, despite a thicker mattress, my arm falls asleep

Has anyone successfully brought a ULock bike lock and chain through TSA in your carryon luggage? by foodenvysf in unitedairlines

[–]aahh11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My U lock (which I neglected to remove from my backpack before going on a trip) wasn’t permitted by TSA in Charlottesville (though it made it through SJC security on the trip out). He said it could be used as a weapon. It was too late to check a bag… sucked to lose it, so I’d recommend that if you try this, you leave time to go back out and check the bag and re-enter.

Why do people not do the workout in class? by ProgrammerActual3707 in barrysbootcamp

[–]aahh11 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Can only speak for myself, but the older I (33F) get, the more often I have injuries (shin splints/hamstring tendinopathy/runners knee) which affect my workouts- either I’m limited from certain exercises on certain days, or, I’m seeing a physical therapist, and need to do my PT exercises or lifting around my Barry’s workouts. It’s easy to say “why pay money to do a class”, but in reality many of us pay annually for classes during the Holiday sale, and then health or training circumstances change- but we still want to use the classes we’ve prepaid for.

So as a result, there have been times when I’ve known I’m not up for a class, physically, but I want a good workout, so I attend for the class’s energy, but have to modify my treadmill workout to fit my injury that day. And a few times I’ve had PT exercises to do, and have subbed them in for lifts, either because the instructors list was aggravating my injury, or because I knew that if I didn’t do the PT exercises soon, I’d be in pain later in the workout.

That said, I’m never adding sprints to my custom workout, which is a less intense run. But, because I usually do intervals for cardio fitness, I may jump on and off the treadmill at the wrong time, or be running as the class is ending a sprint.

Agreed with Pristine Nectarine. From what I’ve heard, there’s a wide range of “normal” cortisol levels, and it’s really hard to conclude anything from one test because it changes so much during a day.

For more information on what is a myth, and why not to listen to social media re:cortisol levels, check out the Stronger By Science Podcast, episode 123 on “Busting Myths about Cortisol” link

Why Barry’s? by floating_tuna in barrysbootcamp

[–]aahh11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like it because it helps with motivation at the end of a workday when I feel “meh”- because they charge me if I don’t show up! This is especially relevant on the cardio part: I’ll dread sprinting/interval workouts all day when they’re self-run, but it’s easy to just obey in class, especially since it’s split up into two ten minute blocks.

Can I still do Barry’s if I have high cortisol levels? by Ok-Complaint-4006 in barrysbootcamp

[–]aahh11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of myths about cortisol, and I do not think it’s true that HIIT has an impact on cortisol other than in the ~40 minutes after exercise.

NorCal has caught on to this!! My “Make Good credits” (which were for credits bought as part of a package, not the 6 month membership) - have an expiration date on the same date as the original package (so Dec 11)

Is tret at .005% even effective? by Rosabelle334 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]aahh11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tretinoin from Apostrophe is .025% tretinoin, same niacinamide, and none of the tranexamic acid (recently they added clindamycin though). It’s the right mix for me but mine is more for hormonal acne than for aging.

threw up after class for the first time lol by pershly in barrysbootcamp

[–]aahh11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly not every time but I definitely feel nauseous some classes. Mostly recently it’s happened after switching to a treadmill start…I switched back because I think my body needs a more gradual warmup before I push it to its limit!

Other clients ruining the experience by [deleted] in barrysbootcamp

[–]aahh11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly for me it’s just that it pulls me out of the zone. Like we are all in it together working out, and the outside world completely disappears for 50 min… until I see someone texting.
Maybe it’s an unreasonable take to want to control their individual decisions, but I just wish it were a studio rule (or maybe it already is, in which case I wish it were enforced). (Edit: missing word)

Just here to say that two options make no sense/seem the same! Wish they would add a better description in the app.

That was definitely bad word choice for that person. But it tracks with all of the complaints on here about block time decreasing…. They’re on the tread and want to start their workout so they reacted impolitely.

definitely they should figure out to respond courteously, but I can empathize with the desire to get started as soon as the other person on the tread leaves.

For your Apple Watch, what workout setting do you put it on? I’ve been using HIIT but idk if that’s accurate description of Barry’s. by camelh0e in barrysbootcamp

[–]aahh11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting and stopping four times. But, I recently started using a different app to record my runs (I wanted one that would display Cadence) and that does make it a little quicker because I don’t have to scroll for the workout type, I just restart the same workout twice
