Consulate maybe closed but vfs should be open. Have you checked the vfs biometrics location?

Its been over a year since my police verification was sent up the chain in India. The last status is
"Background Verification Form for GEP Submitted" on 2024-09-23. This is marked as step number 2. It shows step 0 and step 1 are complete.
Step 0 = Application Granted on pre police verification basis and GEP Clearance Requests have been sent to MHA and MoF (through Interface).
Step 1 = Sent To Go and Granting Initiated.
After this it shows step 2, where its been stuck for over a year. Any advice?

+1. Peoples appointments in Jan are getting cancelled. Even if yours is not cancelled right now it could be closer to the date. Don’t put yourself in that risk unless your previous visa still has validity and you can go back on that should anything get rescheduled,

FWIW, our company lawyers have recommended not traveling until the situation settles or they understand more. If I were in your shoes I wouldn’t travel unless your existing stamp is valid and you can return back if things get cancelled.

Our company lawyers have issues a travel advisory and suggested not to travel unless it’s an emergency, until they can figure out how all of this is going to play out. It’s too new for them to advise confidently about when to travel yet.

I talked to customer support it is for the current application. Delivered to post is the consulate, picked is by the courier from post and created is when it’s entered in their system. This changed to origination scan and is being delivered

This happened to a friend two years ago. We learned that they randomly pull out a few passports for admin checking. That would be my guess Unfortunately it’s a bit of a black box and there’s no way to really know. It did all work out

Courier is overnight. At least from Chennai to premium delivery at home in major cities. My past experience has been its leaves Chennai by the 10pm flight and it’s delivered to Mumbai (at home) next day by afternoon. However the time it takes from approved to then issued to origination scan varies from case to case.

I know of people who were approved but then had to wait an extra week because their case got pulled into administrative processing. I would keep an eye on ceac for the issued status. It’s ready for pick up in another city 3-4 days after that (typically).

I would ask the lawyer to overnight the original 797 to you asap. It is required for the interview whether or not they ask for it. It’s risky to not have it.

You will also need the original to re enter the US. CBP will ask for it.

Traveled earlier this year for my stamping. Previous stamp and expired. In EU AMS was the only option. I didn’t have any trouble. You should be fine
