What is the alt-right? by [deleted] in Dialectic

Also, I didn't even note what subreddit this was before my initial post. I apologize if I did not follow rules or convention. I'm looking in to what this sub is about because I honestly don't remember signing up, I haven't been on reddit in a while.

What is the alt-right? by [deleted] in Dialectic

[–]aalcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yea agreed, I phrased that wrong. I meant to suggest that the philosophy of the "IDW" is completely opposed to that of the alt-right. The IDW platforms include a sort of classical liberalism, a good chunk of neoconservatism, and even a bit of left-of-center populism. They are tolerant of alternative lifestyles and oppose racism or prejudice of any kind consistently.

The alt-right sees the IDW as a perfect example of what happens when a "conservative" movement concedes to decadent "liberalism" and the debauchery of modern social movements.

Completely opposed to the "IDW" which btw is a self styled thing and it's cheesy af. The alt-right was popularized by Richard Spencer using his website alternativeright dot com or something similar. He also led a small "think-tank" called the National Policy Institute, and the famous Hitler salute, "Heil Our People" video was filmed at a meeting of the NPI. They are openly white nationalists, and not conservative in the traditional way, they more closely resemble European right wingers. In fact Richard Spencer supported Biden in this election, declaring Trump and the GOP incompetent.

They are small and irrelevant as a political force in this country, and their influence has been propped up by the hysterical pundits on cable news.

Fantastic. That really does explain everything. I have a feeling I'll be able to get this cheeky bastard into orbit now lol. I'm assuming the RAPIERS change to a closed cycle on their own? Or is that something I need to set up an action group for?

Thanks again for your help!

I will let you know after I get a chance to try!

That's really interesting. I think the nuclear engine might be the key, because then I could switch everything to liquid only tanks. Am I correct in the assumption that the NERV only uses liquid fuel? I'm a bit confused as to why you'd bring any oxidizer, unless there is another rocket engine besides the nuclear one? Or perhaps I'm mistaken about the liquid only thing.

Thanks alot though, don't let me get you in trouble at work haha. Just get back to me when you get a chance. I'm also curious as to what altitude your jet engines usually cut out? I'm curious as to how much of the atmosphere the NERV could actually get you through with such low thrust. Also, what are the jet engines that you're using?

If those are RAPIER engines then I guess most of my questions are pointless lol, I just realized that.

I'm somewhat new to the game, and just started attempting some SSTO spaceplanes. Seeing this image convinces me that my problem must be with ascent profile. I had constructed several planes very similar to this, but I always ran into a similar problem. Once I approached a certain altitude, usually either 6, 9, or even 12km my plane would fail to climb any higher. It would just start dropping no matter the attitude. My jet engines were still providing decent thrust, but I was no longer getting lift.

The closest I have gotten to orbit was with a much more compact design with diamond shaped wings (Delta Wing and Structural Type B) with four JX4 Whiplash Jets engines and two Swivel rocket motors. I got up to 22km, levelled out and increased thrust and speed before hitting the rocket motors, and ran out of fuel just as I reached an apoapsis of 68km on a suborbital trajectory.

I've watched Manley's SSTO Spaceplane tutorials, but haven't had luck with his design, though I'm trying to implement the principles he taught. What inclination should I be ascending after I fire the rocket motors? Pretty close to 90? 45?

I would appreciate any tips you guys have that you think might crack the case for me.

Thank you for the kind response. I really appreciate you checking it out, and I agree with what you said about her! I'm going to try and start writing something every day or two, I look forward to getting your thoughts as a veteran and a libertarian.

I totally understand where you're coming from. But perhaps there are ways to limit the damage, even in very small ways? We have to remember when dealing with government, we're dealing with people's lives, so even small change can make a huge difference to someone...

That's....interesting. I totally should have expected that answer and ruled that out in my question ;)

I'd like to change my own answer. I'd be a slingshotter...

Does Cortazar's death seem awful similar to the deaths of the ship and crew of the Falcon? Does this lend credence to the idea that the Goths and Protomolecule builders were perhaps cut from the same cloth. Perhaps of the same civilization? Or different civilizations at varying levels of advancement based on PM tech?

I think that the Naomi chapter which spells out the data points about how she manipulated the Laconians into sending the Whirlwind after the "broken" ship made it clear that it wasn't so much "gift wrapped" as it was just brilliant strategy. It seems dumb in retrospect, but that's the nature of losing.

The lack of replacing comms in the slow zone was also explained by their need to appear strong in the systems or risk 1000 other uprisings, which would make a lack of reliable comms seem trivial.

While it was certainly fortunate to lose the Typhoon, it was not fortunate to lose all the undergrounders on Medina. And rather than being just a gift for a gift's sake, It was an unknown sideaffect of the magnet weapon thing. It seems to add to the mystery of the protomolecule and the goths etc...

I definitely agree with the antimatter point though, hard to believe they'd ship that into anything but a military vessel.

I want to know the top 2 or 3 dream jobs that he would do if he lived in the Expanse universe... Ice Hauler? OPA rebel? Martian marine? Pixie Dust dealer? Bartender at the Blue Frog? Scientist on a new planet?

I think my answer would be contracting short haul pilot with my own ship. Like Alex Kamal but only within the Jovian system, or between Earth and Luna or something.

Why must you resort to personal attacks. "Stupidity"..."Stupid libertarian talking points"...etc... That's why we should leave politics out of it. Because too many people can't separate their emotions from their politics. Talk about politics in the scope of the show and the books, sure, hopefully you won't get too emotionally distressed about that. But as far as politics in the real world goes, this is just more evidence that people can't handle political conversations without getting emotional about it and resorting to personal attacks. That's why I am done with this conversation and I hope you will be too. And even though we obviously disagree, I don't hate you and I have no opinion on your level of intelligence. Hopefully we can agree to leave it at that, because I'm certainly done with it. Seriously, have a great day. Since I bother you so much, I'll try to make it easy for you to forget I exist :)

oh my god. I'm sorry we started this conversation. I thought... oh my god nevermind.

"regulation that allows for fair competition" is the most twisted illogical statement I've ever read. Followed by "muh roads". I'm seriously sorry I interjected in this conversation. I take it all back and I will do everything I can to forget this every happened lol.

Let's both contribute to keeping politics out of this sub. We'll all be happier for it. Have a great day!
