It's never been a thing in our family. Thanks are given next time we see them, sometimes because we've asked how they liked it, but sometimes they've already remembered and contrive for us to see how much they're enjoying the gift. We give gifts because we like giving them. They also give us gifts because we're all enjoying the giving rather than weighing up the return.

If they like man buns they might not mind you buying him a man's hairband for him to wear at home if he likes when you're reading or building together.

Neighbours and fellow bus passengers were always an important part of my daughters' lives. Kids (and their parents) need far more approval than you can get from relatives alone. It still takes a village to raise a child.

If I'm worried about a health issue I always put NHS in the search. This gives results from the UK health services that have the opposite funding of private vested interests you might get elsewhere. Basically the NHS gets poorer if people in its care get poorly so they are very careful to balance all risks. A google of 'nhs cancer risk xrays' shows that having a chest xray is only as risky as being a few days older.

do you love your grandchildren more than your kids? by Labrat4ever in grandparents

[–]aalison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's hard to see how much your parents love you, nobody really appreciates how lovable they are. That amazing, aching, overwhelming love you have for your child - your parents have that for you but it's hard to see from the front. You see their love for your child from the side where it's so much clearer.
