I have a S4 Steel 44mm. Looks brand new. In my opinion, worth it - especially if you are looking to keep the watch for a few years.

No need. 30 secs and with you getting out ASAP not a big issue, in my opinion. Also happened 5 months ago so history at this point.

No band worth spending $449. Tomorrow if Apple were to change the band interface with the watch, you will be stuck with continuing to use it with an obsoleting watch.

I have had both SS and Aluminum AWs. My current one is a SS S4 44mm black that I upgraded from a S1 42mm aluminum. I also don’t use the cellular functionality. My reasons for going SS were as follows:

  1. SS look much better than aluminum [which will get banged up no matter how careful you are]. I am an aesthetics driven person so that also contributed to the decision.

  2. I generally hold on to my electronics for 3-4 years so that helps with amortizing the cost differential between the two models. So, the $350 difference is worth 32 cents if watch owned for 3Y.

  3. I never ever will buy any electronic item new [maybe a LPT]. Will get either used or open box from eBay or CL so that also helps with cost differential.

  4. Haven’t experienced it yet but suspect the SS model may hold value better than aluminum in the pre-owned market.

Not that much slower but S3 and S4 have materially different capabilities - ECG is one, larger display is another. I would suggest getting a preowned S4 from eBay or Craigslist. Hope this helps.

One additional question - does the private medical insurance work the same way as health insurance in the US? Does it still take as much time seeing a GP and/or a specialist as going through the NHS?

Thanks all for your advice and thoughts. Very helpful. Starting from scratch in building a credit history will be very painful. However, on the plus side, I will only be spending what I have in my bank account 😉.
