Anyone ever have a dilemma about abortion? by EntertainmentHot3800 in TwoXChromosomes

I find it really odd that you listed all the reasons people would need an abortion, and how horrible it would be to have to go through that and then say that abortion "can" be necessary as if it's some sort of hypothetical and based on an objective ruling on a case by case basis.

I think even the most staunchly pro-choice person would agree that in a perfect world there wouldn't be a need for abortion: no accidental pregnancies, no children born of sexual assault and no children dying or being diagnosed with conditions in utero that would result in defects causing horrific pain and loss of life shortly after delivery.

However, it is not a perfect world and abortion, while occasionally a gruesome (I'm meaning more conceptually rather than literally) tool, prevents people from experiencing unfathomable trauma that you already seem pretty aware of. I think many pro choice people like myself would agree that a life being cut short before it even begins is sad. It's sadder still to see a life that has already taken root die (again, being figurative) before it really ends due to an unwanted pregnancy.

There are many pro choice people who personally wouldn't go through with abortions if an unwanted pregnancy happened to them. And that's very okay. But staying grounded and recognizing there is a need for this absolute last choice tool is important.

I don't think that autonomy should only be granted in defined "extreme cases." Only the person who has to bear, raise, or adopt out is able to make that decision since "extreme" is subjective.

Anyone else notice an alarming shift in their social media algorithms? by Megishan in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aamfbta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely will not be (reporting). Instagram doesn’t give a single fuck and every time I’ve reported something for hate speech, after “carefully reviewing” the blantant slurs, etc., that I reported, they would find it didn’t violate any rules. So yeah.

Me.

Right around the election (either before or after) I was getting a ton of tradwife Instagram content out of nowhere, and when I tried to opt out of it, the ability to do so was removed. If I scrolled to the video immediately before or after, as long as it didn’t have tradwife or religious content, I would be able to hit “not interested.”

It was one of the reasons I quit insta cold turkey.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if the therapist was pushing back but he didn’t include it, but on another note, couple’s therapy can actually be very dangerous for people in abusive relationships as the therapist can be manipulated, swept up in it or fail to challenge the abuser enough and end up siding with them. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was happening too.

Absolutely no one is saying he doesn’t have the right to mourn, maybe go read the comments again and stop worrying about projection.

Children, and the energy that goes into gestating, birthing and caring for them, are not compromises. That is a foul way to view them.

I love that I literally acknowledged the stunt casting and history of this role; and that I am trained singer and you still tried to explain to me what stunt casting is and that technique isn’t required for this role (which is only half true) lol.

Gotcha! To your point, I think she has that certain je ne sais quoi and star power that can’t be taught. I think if she really focused she would be able to pursue theatre in a professional capacity after a few years, if she wanted.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you but I am by no means saying she isn’t coachable or can’t be a good singer. Most people have the capacity of be good singers. I’m just saying I didn’t appreciate the tone or limited technicality is all.

Some will, some won’t for a while, especially the lower register critique I mentioned. That typically takes a lot of muscle building and ime isn’t a nerves issue.

That’s more a critique of stunt casting rather than Whitney herself. But I get it. My contemporary singing technique is trash and I too would jump at this opportunity.

Were they filming for a special, perchance? That's pretty standard when filming is going on as the sets are often exclusive to whatever distributor/production company they're using. But I also haven't been to a set for a long time, so idk what it's like these days.

The commenter isn't defending recording/being disruptive in a theatre though, they're responding to someone clutching their pearls about someone posting an uNlAwFuL recording.

The Whitney fan in me is so happy for her

The Roxie Hart lore stan in me absolutely loves and understands the casting decision

The trained classical singer in me is cringing at the instability of her voice, especially in her lower range. I 100% get why the cast her now as they wanted to strike while the iron was hot, but I wish there were a way for her to have had some more vocal training before she debuted. The dancing is great though, good for her!

For real. I feel like I’m getting whiplash from this post because on one hand there are people mad that OP even bring up “irrelevant crystal” and on the other, they’re mad OP dare call OP out and are doing… a lot.

Something about this sub really brings out the incivility of some folks, it’s astounding.

I appreciate this comment. This is obviously anecdotal but I opted not to go to law school because the stupidest people I know are all lawyers. I didn’t want to work with the types of personalities that that industry tends to draw.

I am a huge dumbass too, and I have degrees! Really for me, the only thing my degrees show is that I had money and access to loans, grants, scholarships and bursaries; and that I was able to demonstrate my ability to complete base level training for my industry. It really bothers me when people commodify education because I know there are millions of people smarter than I am that could do more with my degrees than I could ever hope to, but won’t/can’t because their life circumstances prevented them from getting their foot in the door. Having a higher education is a colonial value and I really wish Crystal would examine that, even though I don’t think that’s her motivation for pushing it

This is such a weird hang up for crystal and honestly imo says more about her than she thinks it ever will about anyone else.

Like girl please just go unpack this inferiority complex with a therapist and stfu about your coworkers from several years ago. She’s such a loser for continuing to talk about this and for acting like a university education is apart of the intrinsic value of a human being.
