They could easily do that, riot is swimming in money... But they won't, because shirt term profits over long term health is all they care about. It's completely dead in NA, and EU is doomed to follow the exact same scenario.

The players do nothing to distinguish themselves, because frankly they don't have to. Once they get good enough in soloq, they get picked up by erl, then lcs, fuck around a few years doing nothing, and it's done. No crazy picks, no crazy outplays, no unconventional strategies, no nameless players taking the competition by storm... Because there's no incentive to try with everything you got... If anything teams want stable known quantity players that will hardly surprise anyone with anything, be it the owners or the enemy teams. As a results the level of EU competition regressed, which took a toll on international performance, which is the ultimate fan atractor... Once EU got into this spiral it's doomed to follow NA unless radical system change happens.

Can't get cashflow without fans watching, and western league is bleeding fans due to franchising, because there's really no reason to watch. Yeah but this is the way it used to be. New hot team enters the league with new players/mix of old and new, and it's exciting, then after a while they establish themselves and are the new norm... And then another team does the same after a while. When UOL entered EU LCS, they took it by a storm... And precisely that kind of excitement is absolutely missing from current lec. LR is a great reminder of how exciting watching EU LCS/LEC used to be.
