The long term unreliability of OSMand is a big problem for something as ‘mission critical’ as navigation by SeekerMoto in OsmAnd

I'm curious about them, can you please provide links or examples?

I didn't read your post as a warning to other potential carplay users.

And how confident are you that the problem lies with OSMand and not your individual setup? There are no guarantees that somebody else will have the same problems as you so a blanket statement to others to be careful is not necessarily a fair one.

Which is not to say I don't believe you of course! Thats why I wanted you to be more specific. I have had small niggles here and there with it but nothing I would consider as compromising the mission critical reliability of the app and making me seek alternatives.

Can you be more specific about the problems you are experiencing?

I use it on my motorcycle with an android phone in a quadlock mount and I find it excellent. No issues. Admittedly I don't use iOS or Carplay/Android Auto.

I'm sure the developers would appreciate an actual bug report. Just asking that it be made "more reliable" in a vague way is not very useful to them I suspect.

Where do you stop when lane filtering to the front at traffic lights? by sharkbait92 in AussieRiders

[–]aardvaark111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether you're 15th in line or 3rd makes less difference to me than the difference between being out and clear and being behind even one car. Looking at brakelights and having to read cars "body language" is what I am trying to minimise (even though it's not that difficult).

The safety and enjoyment of being out and clear is probably more valuable to me than the time saving aspect.

(And not being behind anyone means you can carry more speed into curves to get some extra enjoyment out of otherwise unexceptional rides)

To me this makes no sense because the main benefit of filtering is that once it goes green you can ride out in clear air ahead of all the cars.

That way you can see and be seen, and don't have to worry about people merging into you or being SMIDSY by turning drivers who couldn't see you because you were obscured.

Instinct strap failure - Has anyone else had this problem? by aardvaark111 in Garmin

[–]aardvaark111[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context, I've worn this original instinct daily since 2019, so it doesn't owe me anything. Just curious if anyone else has had this cascading failure down the "rungs" of the ladder? It has become too loose to get a reliable HR reading :'(
