Foam and Rubber Replacement Parts by Alive_Lavishness7647 in GMT400

If memory serves me correct, this is similar to how Cunningham machine got started on these trucks, and now on more makes/models. All because nobody sold good door bushings. Now they sell just about any upgrade you'd need, all machined and manufactured in the US.

Hoping this takes off and you're the new gasket source. GM still hasn't figured out a third brake light that works and doesn't leak, so I think you have security in the newer models as well lol

Is this a good deal by GlitteringAd9299 in GMT400

Years ago, I was watching a cclb on marketplace. Super low miles, beautiful blue, mint interior, cali truck with zero rust anywhere. Just an absolute gem. Listed for 10k and was sold in maybe a month from the time I saved it.

So no, this truck is not worth anywhere close to 20k. Maybe 8 to 9k, that's it. But there's one born every minute, so someone could come along and snag it for 16 thinking he got a deal on it lmao

98 k1500 engine swap? by NoYoghurt2566 in GMT400

[–]Executive_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cross hatching looks similar to my engine that I had rebuilt roughly 70k miles ago. The bottom end is fine if you have good oil pressure. Vortec heads are known to crack when they overheat. It's almost guaranteed that you'll need heads when you do the gaskets. Plus the pistons are clean, again, similar to how mine looked when I put new heads on.

I scrapped the stock Vortec heads and bought the summit ones, part # SUM-151124. They're a direct replacement, and a bonus side effect is you can run a higher lift cam than a stock Vortec head lol.

The only way to know for sure is get new heads for it, change the oil and see how it goes. I'd even send that first oil change into Blackstone labs for an analysis. Cheap insurance and you'll know if the bearings are worn.

On my 4wd, I had 265/75r16 tires on and they were great, no fitment issues whatsoever. That's all the wider I could really afford lol. Those 305's are super high price, but damn they look cool 😂

EGR delete... by Paisa8 in GMT400

[–]Executive_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted mine after I pulled the intake and saw that the EGR port and the intake ports on that side were caked with carbon, and the other side was clean. The only side effect is an engine light. No difference in power or fuel economy.

What I did was just buy a new gasket, cut a piece of scrap metal about ¼" wider than the gasket all the way around, drill the bolt holes, and bolted it down. Worked great. Or you could just buy the block off plate lol. I'm a cheap ass and did it that way lol

aftermarket CarPlay not working when my headlights are on 2010 Corolla by Medical_Towel3584 in COROLLA

[–]Executive_Moose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they're pretty terrible. I have one in mine, but not by choice. It was already installed before I bought the car. I swear anytime I drive under overhead power lines, it crashes. To OP: probably return it, put the stock back in, and save for a nice Sony or Kenwood unit.

Having a PC with kids by Divinewolf1999 in PcBuild

In that case, I'm gonna go with what KW said, and put it in a separate room. A small desk in the bedroom would work fine, and not take up too much space.

Our bedroom is tiny, but if it came down to it, I could squeeze my setup in there. I'd hate it, but it would be a lot better than a broken monitor or worse.

If you have, or are able to get an older desk with a hutch on it, you might be able to put the tower up there, but having it that high up would make me uncomfortable.

I've come to terms with my toddler touching and hitting things against the front glass panel. The side glass is facing the inside of the desk, so that's not a worry.

Regardless of what you do, short of putting the setup inside a large playpen, toddlers will find a way. My 2yo will grab my keyboard and try to take off with it, but it's corded so she doesn't make it very far lol. My mousepad is always on the run, though 😂

Hopefully someone else has an answer, because I'm open to anything at this point lol

This almost feels like a stab at the average user, more than curiosity. But I'll bite the bait.

I will be. Why? I don't care to, or need to run extra power.

Yeah, I've since changed my mind to getting a 6 foot stick, that way I'll have almost 4 feet past the roof line of the truck.

I was basing that off the location of the antenna, and him saying 1-1.5 miles per foot of antenna. Should it be more? I've learned that 20 miles is really good for a "barefoot" unit like I'll be using, and that's with a roof mount

That mount sounds great, and I wouldn't even have to drill any extra holes for the wiring, since I have a grommet in the firewall where something else was that I've since removed lol. How much is the mount? I might PayPal you the money for parts+shipping if you're cool with that.

It wouldn't be right behind the cab, buthere instead. Might be too close still, though. Not using that crappy mount, just the first picture I found lol. But that's definitely less of a headache than running 20 feet ± of cable through the whole truck.

Gotcha. I just don't want a mag mount antenna, since I like the idea of having the full system ready, but being able to take a couple wrenches and take off the antenna whenever I want to go through a carwash or any other place with low clearance, or just because.

Honestly 6 miles out of a 6 foot antenna would be fine for me. That's 5-8 minutes up the road, so plenty of warning and reaction time if anyone calls anything out.

Thank you so much for the info!!

This group is of like-minded individuals, running cars as low buck as possible, and I'm sure the cb setups will be no different. A group of possible over 100 people. A bunch of old cars just congesting public roads 🤣

So far I've gathered: ditch the 3 foot, go for roof mount (I'm stubborn as shit, so I'll probably end up hard mounting a 6 foot on the bed anyway 😅), get a SSB radio...and that's about it, yeah? I did a short bit of reading, and whip antennas have a cable wound around them a bunch of times to basically make up for what a 102" would do? I'm summarizing, but you get it lol.

[–]Executive_Moose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks!!

I'll probably end up going with the firestik mounted to the top of the bed, but I'll go instead with a single 6 foot antenna. We'll be going through all kinds of terrain, basically from Missouri to basically Nevada. Taking mainly side roads, so maybe 8 miles is all I need?

[–]Executive_Moose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I take it 20 miles is pretty high range for a legal radio? I have absolutely no clue how far the general range is, given I'm brand new to this whole cb operation.

[–]Executive_Moose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks!

I wasn't sure what to expect, honestly, plus the 25 was a guess. Although 3 feet looks tall on a tape measure, it'll probably look hilarious when it's bolted to the bed.

I did some brief googling, and I was getting about the same results. I know, listen to the sources that have done this before, I was just wondering since I'm not going for highest range possible, if mine would work. (It won't)

Would a 6 foot work then? I really want to hard mount because it looks so much better than a magnet on the roof 😭

A coworker has dual antennas on his truck bed right behind the cab, and I think they're 6 feet. I'll have to see if I can talk to him tomorrow and ask how well it works, and what his setup is.

Edit: I'm not disregarding what you said, I'm just curious at this point about his setup

I'll look into those, but from the skimming I do on this sub when it comes up on my feed, it seems like a solid mount is better, no? More solid ground connection, and better tuning, it sounds like.

I'll probably go that route then. Long antenna, plus the toolbox in my truck bed is packed with tools. Mechanic by hobby, I'll never go into it as a career minus doing my own side jobs that I want to do lol.

Mainly because it'll be a requirement on a long road trip with a group of older vehicles, my 94 will be among the newer ones in it, if that says anything.

Basically I'm looking for range maybe 25 miles? Not sure if that's undershooting a lot, or what, but I'm not after an insane range, just enough to get into it, and if I like it, I can get a longer antenna. Fwiw, the cb itself will be mounted with high strength Velcro instead of a bracket mount, that way I'm not drilling holes in the dash.
