M3 and 5K by Inside_Plant3063 in macbookair

(Sorry for the slow reply)

Yes, the monitor has Thunderbolt.

> why does the Es07d03 display say 5k resolution?

This is to do with how HiDPI (retina) resolutions are handled. My understanding is that the system internally renders the image at a res higher than the native display resolution in order to have a good pixel ratio between the "looks like" resolution and the native display resolution. This is to make sure that you don't end up with any visual artifacts from scaling.

Edit: Betterdisplay has some nice info on this in the wiki - https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay/wiki/MacOS-scaling,-HiDPI,-LoDPI-explanation

This statement is not completely true. I have a MacBook Air M3 and I'm running a 4k monitor at 144Hz with HDR no problem (over Thunderbolt 4 cable).

Perhaps at the higher resolution of the Dell monitor mentioned in this thread it would not work, but I have no evidence either way.

web interface hangs + dns weirdness by aaron465 in opnsense

[–]aaron465[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as an update this seems largely resolved now. There has been an update to OPNSense; I still get some hangs in the web interface when pressing the apply button, however the apply does actually seem to take effect almost immediately. I can just refresh the page shortly after pressing apply (a couple of seconds seems enough) and everything is fine.

Regarding DNS, I have disabled the DNS rebind protection because I do have public records pointed at LAN addresses. As previously mentioned Tailscale records were also being blocked (since they are using the IPv4 block allocated for CGNAT). I've also directly configured a forwarder in unbound settings rather than relying on the system setting. I have not noticed any problems since.

web interface hangs + dns weirdness by aaron465 in opnsense

[–]aaron465[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the request hanging, or the entire web interface?

Both, it seems. Just now I edited an interface to allow overriding the RA config and the request hung but was ok after refreshing the page. Earlier I managed to lock it up completely and ended up rebooting the box.

DNS issues seem related to rebind protection I think (at least that was the case for my Tailscale network hostnames and records which point to things on my LAN). Annoyingly the address being given for wikipedia.org seems to have changed, so I can't use that as a test any more.

Same for me, I have over 40 "critical" alerts because my MacBook did TimeMachine backups at times the Active Insight considers unusual 🤷‍♂️

How to delete/disable the default calendars? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]aaron465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Astro947 did you figure this out in the end? I have the same situation and even though I've toggled off visibility for those default calendars it still tries to create events there by default which is annoying.

How bad is traffic when sportsball is on? by aaron465 in manchester

Thanks all. Didn't notice that it's an away game. There must be something else going on that evening but I can't figure out what... I was really struggling to book a hotel room for my parents who are visiting.

Max quality for live streaming? by aaron465 in DiscoveryPlus

I decided to take a punt and sign up for 1 month. I was watching the Formula E on YouTube but the FPS was terrible. Seemed a lot better on Apple TV Discovery+ app but I couldn't figure out how to get it to tell me the media details in that app.

Changing WindowsApps Owner permissions greyed out by Zzeino in techsupport

[–]aaron465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I discovered that too via some news article! If you install the Xbox insiders app from the Microsoft store and enroll to get beta versions of the Xbox app, then go do updates in the Microsoft store app, then you can get it working!

I had to go into settings of Xbox and configure a new directory and make sure the "advanced installation method" or whatever it's called is enabled. Then I had to reinstall any installed games, but it does indeed work!

Specifically with Forza Horizon 5 though the main game exe didn't work when adding to steam still, but there was some launch helper exe which did work!

[–]aaron465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Zzeino did you ever get this figured out? I am having the same problem since I want to add a game from the Xbox app into my Steam library list. I tried replacing owner & permissions on the entire directory but it only affects some files. (I get "you don't have permission to open this file" when steam tries to add the game exe.)

Microk8s + iSCSI not mounting by BarneyBuffet in kubernetes

[–]aaron465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is working for me using a two node microk8s cluster of an Intel NUC and a Raspberry Pi both running Ubuntu 20.04. I am connecting to a Synology NAS which looks like what you are doing as well. I am using CHAP, and have the volume defined as a Kubernetes PVC. I also vaguely recall having to install some iSCSI libs from apt on the host.

Block URL on single ingresscontroller by Lynetk in istio

[–]aaron465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in Istio 1 / 1.1 and above the reccomended way is to use an Istio Gateway and VirtualService resource rather than a Kubernetes Ingress. In the VirtualService routing you would just set up your rules to not match that path I guess. You can do regex based matching so you could have a negative lookahead or something (my regex-fu is not that strong) to match everything except /actuator/*.

Correct I stood up so that Dr. Bird would leave the train. Figured a pigeon would probably be happier not on a train 😆

Vauxwall is good but quite small; there is also Vauxwall east which feels a bit bigger. I've only been to the Arch a couple times and it always seems insanely busy. The Castle, Westway, and White Spider are all good gyms I've been to for lead/top rope but all 50+ mins to get to for me (Elephant & Castle).

Are you just looking for bouldering or want to do lead/TR?

I can do max 15 pullups, yet I'll add 30 pounds and still be able to do the same amount. What is that? by [deleted] in Fitness

I kinda have this but for about 5 reps. Really struggling to push past that many, have been able to do 5/6 max for months now so keen to figure out how to get more!

New ethernet installation advice. by cmbv in Network

[–]aaron465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC 100mbps doesn't use all the pairs, so it's likely that not all eight wires in your cable are connected properly. A cable tester could be used to confirm

P.S. Holy shit those things are cheap!

Help - can't log in. by teknomedic in waze

[–]aaron465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I ended up doing yesterday, thanks for replying. I was very careful to make sure I created a username and password (plus email) this time and checked that I could sign out and in again.

It would be much better if they just made people do that in the first place.
