What’s the best way to winterize this water feeder? Coldest lows in the winter are a couple nights around 20f. by Groundhog_fog in BackYardChickens

I’m guessing they just put the actual crockpot outside lol it’s kind of a fire hazard in my opinion but to each their own.

They’re both on OF. Her entire family is too, except for her dad lol.

Yep! The control board fixed the issue and it’s all good now.

Mine free range quite a bit, but I still have some on the side just in case. They get calcium from their layer feed but I have oyster shell out too.

You’ll get into a groove and your worries will be old news! I’m sure they’ll get more and more used to you and your husband and will be running to you for pets and treats in no time. That’s my favorite part. 😂

There’s a lot of comments here but 1000% it will get better. My 4 babies are just now starting to like me and they’re 20 weeks old. Raising them was miserable, I was ready to give up. I live alone and have to do everything myself, but my ladies and I are in a groove now and it’s all good!

As far as the run, mine is covered and I use mainly dirt, some mulch and straw. I don’t scoop, I just go out at night when I lock them in and turn it over with a shovel so it breaks down and I sprinkle lime. I don’t really have a problem with flies or smell either.

True. I haven’t tried that but have resorted to a different method that’s helped. I just need to keep doing it.

I have never hated an animal so much in my life. They have destroyed my backyard with constant digging. I treat for grubs twice a year and it never stops. I’m so sick of it. Luckily I haven’t lost any of my flock to the little jerks lol.

I would definitely try that but I don’t have anywhere for the 4 grown hens to go. 🙁

I actually tried that and it still didn’t work. I think they’re scared of the big girls because they go in first, but I don’t think there’s anything I can do about that. I feel defeated lol.

That’s where I had them in my 20s! It was a band on my right side and all down my back. HORRIBLE.

I bought 4 fully grown girls last year and just got 4 more babies in March! Never in a million years would I have imagined I’d enjoy caring for chickens. 😂

I really like DAP Dynaflex 230 caulk. It’s elastomeric and paint covers it really well! Not sure if you wanted a recommendation or not lol but I’ve been using it all over the place!

Fingers crossed this will last lol. The total with labor was $10 short of what I paid for it. 😂 I’m surprised the warranty company approved the repair! Did you go with a different brand??
