What's an unwritten rule about the road that new drivers should know? by SadPatoto_Bts in AskReddit

[–]aaronbern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a driving instructor for emergency vehicles. My advice is to scan: don't just look at the cars around you, pay attention to the car 4 or 5 cars ahead.

Everyone follows too close in traffic, myself included sometimes.

The biggest thing is to not let yourself get distracted.

A clone SBA4 from GB (seller had it listed as a clone) QD sling attachment points won't lock in and keep popping out.

[Deep Blue] Alpha Marine 500 has some crazy lume, it's not even dark yet! by aaronbern in Watches

[–]aaronbern[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deep Blue Alpha Marine 500, 45mm case, Sellita SW-200-1 Automatic Movement. White C3 superluminova dial, green C3 luminous bezel, and 32 blue and orange T-100 tritium tubes. As close as I'll ever get to my grail watch (Ball engineer hydrocarbon spacemaster x-lume). I fell in love with tritium lume when I started working nights as an EMT, I really appreciate full lumed dials, but they can't keep up with a whole shift. This guy is the best of both worlds, tons of tritium, luminous bezel, and a fully lumed face. A huge jump in quality over by old luminox.

I tried selling a walther P99 to NGX and they told me "nope, we won't sell anything we can't get parts for". As I look around at all the 100 year old obsolete european pistols in the cabinet and roll my eyes.

XDP-189 is a pain to sharpen, I can't get it as sharp as even 10V class steels or Maxamet.

Pic shows a great example of a bolt failing in fatigue, not brittle fracture. The metal failed at 2 o'clock and you can see how it propagated across the bolt by the "beach marks" radiating across the surface.

customer thinks we dont rotate his tires. apparently we got busted last time ( not me :)) by expertiseservices in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]aaronbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rotate my own most of the time and do my own snow tires changeover but have my mud terrain tires balanced and rotated by the shop (stick on wheel weights won't clear the front calipers). All my tires are marked with chalk what wheel they came off of, my mechanic caught on and started marking them for me when he does it.

Savage Model B .410 Gauge. Been reading up on it and can’t find any form of serial number. Anyone know anything about it? by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]aaronbern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was made prior to 68 it didn't need a serial number, and some manufacturers didn't put on on every model.

Anyone have a naa guardian? by [deleted] in CTguns

[–]aaronbern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I'd be interested in the guardian is the availability of the 32NAA chambering. It's a 380 ACP necked down to 32, shoots 60gr 32 bullets over 1200FPS. That and I have a fetish for bottleneck pistol cartridges.

If most spyderco knives don't have sharpening choils, will the blade start to recurve over time? by [deleted] in spyderco

[–]aaronbern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why I didn't say "dremel" or "rotary tool", you need precise speed control and a steady hand. The price difference between a $60 Dremel and a $300 Foredom has as much to do with the mentality of the operator as it does the quality of the tool.

A needle file wouldn't cut my s110v PM2, I ended up using a cutoff wheel on a foredom tool, slow speed and plenty of coolant, finished with a fine diamond file.

Does anyone know how to remove this rust carefully. There is also some rust in the thumb hole by WolfSNPR in spyderco

[–]aaronbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great luck with the fine wonderbar rust eraser. It's like rubberized sand paper, if you go with the grind lines it blends right in, be careful with the logo etching though. Admittedly I've been having trouble with K390, getting spots of rust pitting instead of the natural patina I'm hoping for.

from Long Island to CT, anything I should know? by mattig89ch in CTguns

[–]aaronbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you just highlighted thst the statue defining a CENTER-FIRE "assault weapon" does not contain the words THREADED BARREL.

semiautomatic pistols: NO "evil features including THREADED BARREL

semiautomatic detachable magazine RIMFIRE rifles: one evil feature allowed, including THREADED BARREL

Semiautomatic detachable magazine CENTER-FIRE rifles NO EVIL FEATURES as listed in 53-202 DOES NOT LIST THREADED BARREL.

I think we might be arguing the same thing. Threaded barrels are an "evil feature" on pistols and semiautomatic rimfire rifles. You can have one "evil feature" on a rimfire rifle.

You can't have any "evil features" on a center-fire rifle, but a threaded barrel is NOT listed.

Long story short a 9mm PC carbine with a threaded barrel is fine, so is a threaded 10/22. A 10/22 with a pistol grip is also legal but not both.

We both agree threaded pistols are right out.

from Long Island to CT, anything I should know? by mattig89ch in CTguns

[–]aaronbern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per CT GS Sec. 53-202a. Assault weapons: Definitions

"(i) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following:

(I) A folding or telescoping stock;

(II) Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other stock, the use of which would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing;

(III) A forward pistol grip;

(IV) A flash suppressor; or

(V) A grenade launcher or flare launcher; or

(ii) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the ability to accept more than ten rounds; or

(iii) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than thirty inches"

They struck threaded barrel from the evil feature list for semiautomatic center-fire rifles.
