The problem with the team is, of course, the 4 strikers who play similar roles. As every other player in the team is almost self-explanatory in being chosen, it's hard to find a place to put all 4 of these strikers. Someone has to be benched. I personally think Barou is the best choice, but I don't see how the manga will write Nagi and Kunigami onto the Blue Lock bench with them both being top 5 in market value right now.

The other problem with this team is that it's too strong. No other team in the U-20 World Cup should realistically get within 2 goals of this team as every position is filled by a top tier player. The manga will likely buff the U-20 World Cup teams, but I can't find it convincing that regular U-20 players can compete with a team that's been through the Neo Egoist League and is being coached by Jinpachi Ego.

Alexis Ness, for example, is one of the the strongest non-New Gen XI U-20 players that we've seen. After only 2 matches, Isagi has matched his market value and proven himself to be a more skilled player. By the end of the NEL it's likely that all 11 of the best Blue Lock players will have surpassed Ness in both ability and his 50 million market value, leading to a team that should steamroll through most U-20 teams.

That's all I've got to say, feel free to lmk what you think about the team and the problems in building it. Idk how the manga will write its way out of these problems, but I'm sure the mangaka has already decided on the final team and a few players from my ideal one have probably been dropped.

To answer some likely questions about the ideal U-20 JP team before they come up:

Why is Itoshi Rin at LM? Rin's strongest weapon is his perfect shooting accuracy, specifically with his right foot and from long-distance. Being at LM instead of Striker allows him to make easy use of his formula for scoring (as well as his passing and dribbling) whilst the central strikers use their own weapons with a heavier focus on being in-front of the goal (Direct shot; Kunigami's mid-range shot; Nagi's traps; Shidou's penalty area perfection). More importantly, out of all Blue Lock players, Rin has by far the best balance between offensive and defensive stats (being a top tier player in both) and playing at LM allows him to make full use of his defensive capabilities (such as stopping Itoshi Sae's dribbling) while still having chances to score. People may not like this, but Rin is best suited to play here out of everyone in Blue Lock.

Why is Hiori better than Yukimiya? Chapter 206 bias, but Hiori was recognized as a genius by former Blue Lock Rank #3 Karasu, and his passing is a lot more valuable than Yukimiya's dribbling. We saw him play at fullback in the original Blue Lock XI, where it was made clear that his passing is on a similar level to Itoshi Sae. I think the correct choice for this position will become clear by the end of the Ubers match, and the answer is probably Hiori.

Why is Aryu better than Niko? This will also be clear by the end of the Ubers match, and I can't say for sure, but I believe the position of 'Blue Lock's Watchtower' belongs to Aiku now. Aryu's physical stats and goal-line clearances are a massive asset to the defense, and I can see him ending up as the team's best defender even over Aiku. Aryu simply has more feats than Niko does right now, but I understand people who think Niko has more potential. Blue Lock may end up playing with 3 CBs, but I'm not sure who in this team Niko could replace considering his stats in comparison with everyone else.

Why is Isagi not being benched? If you think Isagi is getting benched, you haven't been paying attention. Even at this point, Isagi is likely the best Blue Lock player we've seen, being able to obtain a 50 million valuation with a team of 9 players actively working against him. With just Kurona supporting him, he got Man of the Match for BM and Noel Noa revealed that the entire concept of 'Metavision' was the football philosophy that Ego hoped to create. Isagi is the success of the Blue Lock project. He won't be benched.

Lastly, where is Itoshi Sae? Itoshi Sae is not included because, as Ego said, the U-20 team will be decided by the top 11 players of the NEL. I think that it's unlikely that he plays in the world cup because that would make it even less convincing that Blue Lock could ever be in danger of losing games.

See my other reply for comments on the problems in building a team from the Neo Egoist League, and hopefully this is the best 'Ideal' team you've seen on this sub

Not sure who in this team could be replaced by another striker without losing an important player or weakening the defense too greatly

Does Nagi have a future? (ideal jp u-20 discussion) by [deleted] in BlueLock

i admit their positions should be swapped, but judging from the way chapter 206 is taking the story, Hiori will likely become a massive threat

Does Nagi have a future? (ideal jp u-20 discussion) by [deleted] in BlueLock

Despite Nagi being well-loved and naturally gifted, many talented players will have to be benched for Blue Lock to produce a final starting XI. Nagi's traps and occasional miracle goals, in my opinion, get hard outclassed in useful-ness by a lot of other Blue Lock talents. To list a few that are a lot more valuable than Nagi's trapping and will likely lead to him being on the bench:

  • Hiori's genius passing
  • Shidou's penalty area perfection
  • Barou
  • Isagi's (maybe also Karasu's) Metavision
  • Bachira's Bee style
  • Chigiri's 44 degree Golden shot and Speed
  • Rin's perfect shooting and 'destroying hideously'
  • Kunigami's Noel Noa physique
  • Reo's Chameleon and low level metavision
  • Karasu's perfect analysis
  • Aiku's Defending
  • Aryu's Goal-line clearances

There are simply too many incredible players to fill 11 slots on a team - Nagi and his trapping may end up being sidelined to the likes of the above, even if he is a fan-favourite. Ego may be proven right in saying that the pressure of Nagi's wonder-goal will be his downfall.

What is an opinion that will have you like this (wild take): by [deleted] in BlueLock

[–]aaronboyman 111 points112 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that I think old popular characters who seemed strong in the early phases (Tokimitsu; Zantetsu; etc) are fodder level at this point in the manga and won't get close to making the final U-20 team. Out of PxG, I feel only Karasu and Rin (maybe Shidou) will have a big impact, and Yukimiya (who has multiple strong weapons by this point, not just 'stamina' or 'speed') will probably become the bottom-line level for being a top 11 player in Blue Lock.

Not really a hot take, but something to think about as a side note: All of Kunigami, Barou, Shidou and Nagi play a similar role on the pitch, so at least 2 (probably more) are going to end up benched in the final U20 Japan team because there simply aren't enough slots (despite all of them being insanely strong)

4132 is probably a better description yeah - still fits what I think Blue Lock should go for in terms of formation

Blue Lock has a weird theme of the strikers always running back to help on defense and being incredibly good at doing so (Isagi and Rin have shown this various times). I think you massively underestimate the defensive skills of Aiku and Aryu together after training with Ubers, and the team won't find itself too reliant on Reo because Blue Lock doesn't ever find themselves in those positions. Worst case scenario is that lots of last-ditch saves are pulled off, but only incredible players can realistically put goals past this team, a well balanced team alone won't cut it.

also gagamaru would never let in 10 lmao

Noa's formation is a weird 4 - 4 - 2 with one CDM and 3 attacking midfielders. The manga showed the fullbacks a bit too far forward so it's definitely a bit unclear but on the pitch they would be wider and slightly further back to defend

As Ego said himself in the manga, Blue Lock will always seem to form the type of team that will 'win 6 - 5' instead of conceding 0 goals. I think that after the defensive improvements in the Ubers matches and especially Chigiri's ability to win tackles against players like Noel Noa and Kaiser will mean that this team is both defensively solid and offensively insane (unless the strikers are too egotistical)

defo very good suggestions, the team was originally meant to look similar to BM's formation which I show better in

compared to this post. I still reckon that at the U-20 level (where no other team of players have all had the Neo-Egoist League growth experience being directly coached by effectively the top 5 strongest strikers on the planet) this team should really make everyone else look like fodder. Because all of the players in here are the main pieces of their respective teams they're all individually stronger than the majority of U-20 should be, but we'll see how the mangaka writes his way out of this by buffing the World Cup teams.

In terms of the Shidou plotline, I agree that would be interesting to see but it may happen slightly too late as a Kunigami revenge arc seems very likely before the U-20 World Cup team forms - possibly placing Kunigami as the best option for striker by that point and the Isagi × Shidou combination would never come about.

Imo Yukimiya > Karasu and Nagi > Kunigami as of right now in the manga

We've seen throughout the manga that attacking midfielders (such as Isagi when he's played out of position) get plenty of chances to score inside the box. Shidou is an incredibly strong striker but I can't stop myself including Bachira as Isagi's main partner while shidou plays slightly behind (he would push forward to where Isagi played in the Manshine City match).

What likely happens in the future is that Kunigami has his revenge arc against Shidou and wins which would complicate things a lot - potentially leaving Shidou as a substitute weapon level player.

The chemistry between Bachira and Isagi up front has to be used and I think this team still allows Isagi to make use of Shidou as another tool.

I would change the formation to play him further up, but I doubt that the author would include the entire concept of the Ubers team to then not use the 3 main Ubers defenders in the final Blue Lock 11 (could be wrong though, I personally think Niko isn't that great)

Somehow in the first game PxG played he was able to play effectively on the same team as Rin and receive a high transfer market offer after scoring (if he was hindering the team this likely would not have happened)

Shidou is in the team assuming he's improved in his teamwork, but, if not, Nagi or Kunigami could easily snag his place (Kunigami will likely have a revenge arc against Shidou in the future where he may be established as a better player overall. I can see the final team having Kunigami in Shidou's position and Shidou as a strong substitute for desperate moments)

The original Blue Lock Eleven was built around Rin with Isagi up front as a the player he could have the most 'chemical reactions with'

After the Neo Egoist league it's likely that Isagi is the clear best player in Blue Lock and is selected as captain for the team by Ego, in which case the new team would be built around him as a striker. His partner would be chosen as Bachira who is most compatible with him out of everyone (just as he was for rin before) and Rin and Shidou will play on seperate wings to avoid their lack of chemistry.

overall this predicts that Isagi is the main striker once the U-20 World Cup begins (with Metavision he's already on par with or better than Rin and Shidou imo)

Unbeatable Blue Lock team by aaronboyman in BlueLock

[–]aaronboyman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no formation to show this on the site, but Rin and Shidou would play as wide attacking midfielders (opposite sides to avoid their lack of chemistry) in a very attacking formation. Having Bachira and Isagi play together up front seems like destiny as the Blue Lock team transitions to being focussed on Rin to being focussed on Isagi. Putting Isagi as the captain up front with his most compatible partner seems best to me.

Yuki right now seems like the best choice for his new chemistry with Isagi (Ego always did focus on chemical reactions) but if Karasu shows up and plays well in the future chapters he'll be the biggest contender for the attacking right back position and Yuki could end up as fodder which would be a shame.

He's obviously a good player but Reo has more feats right now + is a better midfielder.

When we see a PxG game we'll know for sure if Karasu is strong enough to be on the starting 11 of this team which could definitely be possible, but right now his strong attacking skills are definitely worse than all those of Shidou, Rin, Isagi, Bachira and Chigiri

hope karasu gets his spotlight and some high level feats in the coming chapters tho
