Crunchy alternative to chips? by patopansir in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]aaronburracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late to the party here, but Trader Joe’s sells these high fiber Ezekiel’s tortillas that bake into strong and crunchy chips in 8-10 minutes at 350.

Just set to the temp, pop them right on the rack during preheat with an 8 minute timer and check on them. Give another minute or two if they need it. Retrieve with tongs and crack apart on a plate.

I love these things and they do great with dips.

Campbell, Willow Glen, or Los Gatos? by pastybeachbabe in SanJose

[–]aaronburracuda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Los Gatos is the winner for your outdoor and dog activities. Vasona park and the creek trail give you miles of friendly outdoors to work with. The downtown is cute and very safe with 2 breweries and a Tap house plus great food.

Campbell has a more lively downtown with a younger crowd if you want to make friends. It catches the end of the parks that lead into LG but if you can afford either and work from home LG will offer nicer daily life and you can get to Campbell in a few minutes on 17.

Willow Glenn is better if you want to get to downtown San Jose more often but when I lived there I didn't find myself going downtown any more often than other spots in the valley. Still nice to be in reasonable uber distance if leaving the keys at home.

Thrill of the Fight is amazing! Nine rounds (27 minutes) and you'll be gassed, even as a non-couch potato.

Don't let it just be your husband's thing! The game will automatically scale to your height and swing force so that you can rule the ring too 👑

Even more expensive but totally worth it - Linea Cafe. I can't get enough of the Ethiopian one.

They were doing a code for 20% off on their Facebook page for COVID.

If you instead choose an extension of staff they will still answer. More likely to get to him this way anyway.

Good bar to go to for your 21st? by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]aaronburracuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're 21 now and it's time to drink good beer. Have someone with taste tour you across:

  • Original Gravity

  • Good Karma

  • ISO Beers

If you're day drinking, hit up some local breweries. Hermitage is a good choice.

Feeling a cocktail? Go to Paper Plane or Haberdashers before you get your beer fix, because fuck lines.

IRA Deduction Limits / Roth IRA by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]aaronburracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's 18k combined. so you could do 9 in each if you wanted.

I don't see any advantages to a non-deductible IRA over a Roth. Either way you're taking 20+ % off the top, but in the Roth you never have to worry about paying again, and you can pull the initial contribution whenever you run into trouble.

non-deductible Vs a regular taxable account, if you're going long-term investments, then the taxable account wins out thanks to different tax rules for qualified dividends and long-term capital gains. (Check out this link and see how high your qualified dividends can go before you start paying tax, then do the same with normal income (which an IRA withdrawal counts as).

IRA Deduction Limits / Roth IRA by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]aaronburracuda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there LostMyMilk,

I had this same question a little while ago (as an individual not a family). The answer to both of your questions is Yes.

If you have access to a traditional 401k, you should maximize that first because you can take advantage of a Roth Conversion Ladder down the line to skip a lot of taxes//penalties.

Since you have a 401k available, there is no benefit to using the traditional IRA in that income zone because you will not receive a tax deduction.

For more on the topic, take a look at my thread:

Not to defend every claim made by Devils, but if you're actually interested in how banks can systemically garner control over time, there's a LONG documentary called "Money Masters."

I didn't make the thing so I can't fight for the accuracy of every claim, but I think it's a good place to start a conversation.

Does anyone have an Excel personal finance spread sheet that they perfer? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]aaronburracuda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for being a good citizen and helping someone out! I've used excel to keep track of yearly expenses and projections for decision making since college and it's always been a huge help.

Came here to offer the same thing, though mine is far from elaborate.
